Hello -- I am trying to locate people who have been ripped off by dentists using CareCredit to charge the full amount for an expensive "treatment plan" before any work is done. The rip off is that the consumer expects that the work will be charged as it is done but instead gets a credit card bill for the full amount in a couple of weeks after the first visit. If a refund is requested you are given the run around and a hard time and they charge you 10%.

Please contact me by using the rebuttal box below. I need your help.

Thank you.

CareCredit is Sleazy - Not the Dentist

AUTHOR: Nikki - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, May 26, 2007

If you presented your credit card (or account number) to the office staff at the time of your visit, and they ran the transaction through, you would have been given a receipt to sign. This may explain why you received a billing statement from CareCredit before "full treatment" was completed. My dentist was not aware of any problems with CareCredit until I told him what had happened to me.

I have a report filed on here as well, but briefly, I applied for financing through CareCredit and was given a $2000.00 credit limit. I went to the office on May 1, 2007; set up my treatment plan; gave them my account information; the transaction was put through and authorized (I am in possession of the customer copy); and I proceeded with my treatment plan.

The day after I had the major work done, I received a letter in the mail from CareCredit stating they were not able to offer me financing. The next day, I received my first billing statement from CareCredit. Not only did they change my credit limit from $2000.00 to $100.00, they added a $30.00 fee for being over my credit limit. My account is blocked so I cannot make online payments; I have called CareCredit and GE Money Bank but no one will talk to me. They say they cannot discuss my account. Whether the customer service representatives even understand English is questionable.

What's even more interesting is the fact that I received a bill from my dentists office today and the $2000.00 payment is not even showing as ever being received. Watch your statements from them carefully. I wish I had done a little more research on CareCredit and/or GE Money Bank prior to getting myself into this mess. There seem to be a lot of people having similar problems. Good Luck!

Sounds like sort of sleazy DOCTORS, not Care Credit

AUTHOR: Juliet - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, March 26, 2007

Care Credit only charges what a merchant tells them to charge.

It sounds like the problem is with unscrupulous merchants, not Care Credit.

I've had Care Credit for over a year and haven't had any problem of this type at all.

YES, this Care Credit "mistake" seems a pattern.

AUTHOR: Nadia - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, March 26, 2007

I too signed up with Care Credit to get emergency dental work done at an after-hours dentist (a new one I'd never used before).

Since this was I new card, I followed my routine of calling the credit agency the following business day to be sure everything had been processed correctly. It's a good thing I did!

What a shock when I discovered that I'd been "accidentally" charged for the full credit line I had been approved for INSTEAD of only being charged for the actual work done!!

It took countless phone calls and personal visits to this emergency dentist's office (where I loudly, publicly complained about the problem in front of their other customers), plus countless phone calls and letters to Care Credit over the following week to get this mess resolved.

Needless to say, I then paid off the corrected bill in full and then immediately cancelled the Care Credit card.

From the reports of you and other victims, and my own experience, it seems this sort of "mistake" is a pattern with Care Credit. Also that perhaps they are in league with certain unscrupulous dentists to cheat customers in this manner.

CareCredit ripoff Charged for full "treatment plan" before work done

AUTHOR: Dorcas - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, June 17, 2006

When this "treatment plan" is charged to your credit card account if the credit card company don't reverse it. You should "sue" the dentist office because what they did was fraud charging you for services not provided and you must pay the credit card company. If the dentist is facing losing a lawsuit he should back off and admit the mistake and refund your credit card.

You should be more active in your financial affairs

AUTHOR: Alexandra - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 23, 2005

I got charged the full amount for my dental treatment in November last year. Since then, I had to wait for all the statements from my insuarance company to see how much they paid. I found out I was overcharged almost $2000. But this is not a mistake of Carecredit/GE Money Bank company, but my dentist's mistake. So I had to resolve that issue calling directly to my dentist's office. And finally, I got my refund! Moreover, by calling to Carecredit I got the refund of all interest that accrued on that amount. I'd like to notice that the interest refund was posted on my account the same day I called! So, this company have a really helpful and quick customer service!

yes there is something you can do. File with the Federal Trade Commision

AUTHOR: Mary - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 07, 2004

I too have been scamed by care credit. Charged for something I never recieved. I changed doctors and they insist(the dentist) that they did the work. Well no they didn't. Care credit is responsible for investigateing the issue, not just accepting one side of the story again (the dentists). I was billed for partials. I have my natural teeth. How can they say I have them? Not only this when I sent them a follow up dispute they were required by law to respond to they never did. That was 12-01-03. I filed with the b.b.b. in March, 2004 they did how ever respond to them in April of 2004. But never directly to me just a huge run around. After 90 days the money that is disputed is no longer a valid debt they lose their right to collect after that period. Here is the F.T.C. web address. http://www.ftc.gov/ftc/consumer.htm

Me too. CareCredit charged me the whole sum even before the work was finished

AUTHOR: Pete - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 07, 2004

A new dentist I tried also used CareCredit and the company charged me the whole sum even before the work was finished. I was not satisfied with this dentist's service, not to mention ourageous fees, but lo and behold after trying to contact CareCredit and stop payment, payment was already made to the dentist. Nothing but a headache thereafter, needless to say I'm never going back to finish treatment (for more than 1 reason).

Care Credit....WITHOUT THE PATIENTS CONSENT?

AUTHOR: Amaretto - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Saturday, July 17, 2004

Care credit can only be charged with the patients approval, typically, they are asked if they want the whole amount charged right away but basically, they are given the option to have their care credit charged as treatment is done. Dental office can't pre-approve patients without patients consent, they can't charged anything without patients consent. THEY BASICALLY CAN'T DO ANYTHING WITHOUT THE PATIENTS CONSENT, so the patient either signed something to approve the charge or they're just not paying attention when treatment plan was being discussed.
