Celadon Trucking IS NOT a good company to drive for. I've been with them for a little over a year and have found their business practices to be shady at best. They advertise publicly that you'll make 36,000 to 46,000 a year. They have 85-90% drop and hook. Neither of those statements are true, unless you're a team driver, owner operator, lease purchase or have been with them for several years. You will not receive any raises, they have a freeze on them and have had for over a year; they also cut bonuses for drivers 40%. Your insurance premiums are outrageously high. You mileage pay is low, not average, but low. A driver with over 5 years experience and a clean DAC should make more than .34/mile. They fill you full of best case scenarios during orientation as to put themselves in a good light, but as soon as you are assigned a truck, look out, you're in for a huge disappointment. They pay their service people so little that you receive half assed maintenance on your truck or trailer. You have to know someone in the repair facilities in order to get good service.
Year to date, I've driven 132,000 accident free miles with Celadon. I made 31k last year, before taking out my expenses. I was dispatched well over 300 days. This is not a reasonable living for the amount of hours I put in. I currently have close to 2k in unreimbursed expenses, tolls, wiper blades, etc. I wrote them off to recoup some of my lost expenses. I pay over 6k a year for my insurance. They only get me home on time about 50% of the time. They use shady tactics to keep you struggling and in the truck. You will be the working poor. The company has purchased/leased far too many trucks and have to roll you just enough to make their lease/purchase payments (that is a quote from management). Therefore, if they sit you, it's because you're close to the needed earned revenue for your truck. It's not about you as an individual driver, you are managed in a manner that best suits the company, regardless of their initial claims.
The only way to make the figures they give for personal income is to stay out on the road for very long extended periods. A minimum of 28 days per month would probably get you very close to the lower figure of 36k.
This is not a company a seasoned driver should work for, unless he loves being frustrated and poor. This company is about it's shareholders, cut and dry. You are merely a commodity that is acquired and released to suit their interests.
There are exceptions to what I've written, but in general. You won't make the numbers they give you. You will be lied to, you will be patronized, you will be slighted and most of all you will be considered a number at every turn. I would highly recommend to anyone thinking of working for Celadon Trucking to reconsider and weigh their options. You'd be better off working locally. You'll work less hours, make more money and get better home time; possibly even be treated with respect.

To those of you who chose to respond to this posting. I don't want to hear about your brother, mother, sister, dad, uncle, fiance or other people that "you know" that work or have worked for this company. Things aren't what they used to be and the management style of this company has drastically changed over the past 2 years. So save your comments for those who actually do the driving and work for these criminals.

They call this a rebuttal, but I agree with everything you both have wrote. I am a current driver with Celadon, this place is a joke. No respect for drivers what so ever, the pay sucks, they rip us off on toll reimbursements, it just sucks. I could go on and on too, but you guys have really said it all. They really need investigated. Thanks for writing what you have.

#1 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Celadon should pay damages done to truckers who they wronged

AUTHOR: JC - (United States of America)

If you have been wronged by this company for what ever reason you need to complain to the Dept of Labor, Better Business Bureau, or any/all agencies needed to file a complaint.

I left this company because I was screwed out of mileage that I drove and wasn't paid for.  I put on many miles driving thru the 48 states.  Pay me the mileage I'm due to be paid for,  Example:  I'm sorry if I drive 500 miles, pay me for 500 miles not 425, if I have paid out $150 in tolls then pay me $150 toll reimbursement.

This company has some major  issues,  I agree they tell you one thing in orientation, once your assigned a truck and on the road, well it's a whole different game.   DM's are a joke and dispatch is a disgrace.   I tried to resolve the problem by talking to whom I was told to talk to who could help.  ha ha, the laugh was on me.

Finally when I had my fill, I asked to be routed near my home so I could unload my personal belongings.  I met up with a couple of other drivers while on the road, who were having the same problems, they all told me the same thing.  If ya decide to quite, and they know it,  BEWARE they will route you to a terminal, hoping to con you into pulling in another load, and call you in saying they need to talk to you in the office, while they have you in the office, they have made arrangements in advance-they will have security lock you out of your truck and you will be terminated and escorted of the company property with whatever is in your jeans or coat pockets.  THEY WILL NOT PAY FOR A BUS TICKET HOME, THEY WILL NOT ROUTE YOU ANYWHERE NEAR YOUR HOME, THEY WILL JERK YOU AROUND UNTIL THEY GET YOU INTO THEIR TERMINAL THEN IT'S ALL OVER.   They tell you they will ship your stuff.  good luck if ya ever get it.
I tried to call and resolve the issues at hand again only to go thru the same BS.  So, I just slept on it for the night, thought it thru.  Got up acted like I was doing business as usual, got my gas, put the truck in gear and hauled a*s home, called for someone to meet me, unloaded my truck, once all was done I called Celadon and told them where the truck was located, locked it up and drove away.
I was not about to take any chance on getting stuck going into one the terminals to get told they would ship me my belongings.   I had a lot of $$$ in the electronics I used in my truck.  I don't think so.  Got my final paycheck receipt which was emailed to me.  What a laugh, they are trying to charge me for all this BS, plus everything that has been in dispute is all of a sudden bumped up and padded to try to cover their butts.   My receipts/paperwork will prove this to be fact.  Now I have to get a copy of my DAC report which should be very interesting.   If I have any sort of legal recourse-I'm going all the way.
This company is a bunch of BS.   BEWARE STAY AWAY, THEY WILL ROB YOU WITH YOUR HANDS IN YOUR POCKETS, RESPECT YOURSELF WORK SOMEPLACE ELSE.   YOU WILL BE SCREWED OUT OF YOU MONEY THAT YOU BUSTED YOUR BUTT WORKING FOR, THEY WILL NOT REIMBURSE YOUR TOLLS, SHORT YOU ON YOUR MILEAGE DRIVEN, THEY WILL LIE TO YOU AND MAKE PROMISES WITH NO INTENTIONS OF FOLLOWING THRU.   THEY WILL DESTROY YOU AND YOUR CAREER BY PUTTING FALSE INFORMATION ON THE DAC REPORTS NO MATTER HOW MANY YEARS YOU HAVE DRIVEN OR HOW CLEAN YOUR MVR.
