I applied for the lifeline program to get help with my phone bill as a very low income, senior and disabled person living on less than $900.00 for 3 people plus food stamps. When I was approved I saw no difference in my bill, I was told by a customer service rep that I had a credit of 9.25 off of my bill charged as Credit for telephone assistance plance Federal, -$2.82, credit for telephone assistance plan Federal -$6.43 thus the total Lifeline program credit of $9.25. When I told the Rep that I was walked through the program charges the previous month when I was approved and was told that basic phone would be $17, and that in order to get the Internet for $19.99 I had to carry the $20.00 a month plan for long distance even though I asked to cancel the long distance for $20.00 per month because I A. could not afford it and B. had a cheap cell phone plan through assurance for $5.00 per month that included long distance. I was told by this Rep that if I cancelled the $20.00 long distance I would have to pay $59.99 a month for the internet. I was so confussed and really quit stressed out and near tears and said to just keep the $17.00 a month and the $20.00 long distance I was being forced to have in order to get the $19.99 a month internet. The Rep then said it is to bad you are already a Century Link customer or I could have given you the Internet for $9.99 a month without having to carry a long distance plan you don't need for $20.00 a month. I was still wondering how I was going to afford the $57.00 a month plan when I got my bill in the mail and my monthly charges are $74.33 and this is after the deduction of the $9.25 for the Lifeline program! I was trying so hard to get this Rep to explain all of this to me when she said "you would understand this better if you would do the math yourself Mam", I said thanks and hung up. I am being getting Ripped Off by Centurylink Telephone Company.
