DON"T BUY A VEHICLE FROM THIS DEALER -- They are not a good company to deal with.  They are very seamy, deceptive and fraudulent in their activities.  I will be taking my case to the Nevada Attorney General and probably the Federal Trade Commission it is so serious.

Here is what happened ... you be the judge if you want to buy from a dealer like this;

I was sent a e-mail advertisement offering "BUY ANY NEW DODGE OR JEEP AND PAY NO PAYMENTS UNTIL 2013"  In my mind, and probably your mind, and hopefully the mind of an overseeing commission somewhere, this means if you buy a new Dodge or Jeep, you will not have to pay any payments for a year.  Happy with that idea, I proceeded with a deal to buy a new Jeep Wrangler Sahara.  What a great machine!

We agreed on a price for the vehicle of $39,000 Out-the-Door and I proceeded to finance.  Finance is where the crooks start lining up to defraud you.  Nothing they talk about is in terms of how much it costs, just how much more per month it would add to your payment.  They asked, can you afford this payment, and I said yes.  Do you want a lifetime warranty on the vehicle, gap insurance and an alarm with a two year 100% replacement guarantee for $18 a month ...sure that makes sense for $1296.

All of the sudden the total amount financed is incredibly higher than the agreed OTD cost of the vehicle and the $1296 add-on.  Wow ... the NO PAYMENTS deal is really an illegal rip off where they pad the price of the vehicle and the add-ons and tell you they will be making the monthly  payments.  I objected to this principal because I would be paying the sales tax on the "padded" funds and I would be paying interest in the money padded to the lender to pay the payments.  The dealer agreed to absorb these fees and make the deal go through.  I think in the world of auto finance, this is committing FRAUD to the TD Auto Finance Company to pad their contract so the dealer can make payments from the deal funding.   I was set back by this, but the dealer told me this is the only way they can offer NO PAYMENTS since the FTC changed enacted laws preventing scams like this.

Now the dealer sends me a check and tells me to pay my own payments, but when you add up the agreed cost of the vehicle, the $1296 add-ons, the down payment, the dealer is drastically shorting me enough money to cover the payments, the costs of the payments, and the difference between the financed amount and what I really owed.  What a FRAUD and a RIP OFF !!!

Nice try.

That's not exactly the same as a brand new Dodge or Jeep, is it?   I can find that same deal on a motorcycle or a roomful of furniture.    I challenge you to find someone who would actually make that same deal on a $40K brand new car / truck.  If you do find such a dealer, it'll probably be one like the one you are complaining about.

The bottom line is that the significant amount of money required to make such a deal happen, has to come from somewhere.   Common sense tells you that the cost will be paid by the buyer.  On smaller ticket items they just bump up the price a bit.    On large ticket items like new cars, the cost has to be woven into a complex and (hopefully for the dealer) confusing transaction. Much like the one you agreed to.

Example of Legit Offer -- JUST TODAY

AUTHOR: Don-LasVegas - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, April 05, 2012

No real "No Payments to 2013 Offer" is really available ... hmm

Here is an offer sent to me today from Arcticcat.com to buy a new vehicle from them.  The offer states "FREE FUN UNTIL JANUARY (NO MONEY DOWN, NO INTEREST, NO PAYMENTS UNTIL JANUARY 1, 2013"

I guess that shoots holes in the theory these deals are not legitimately offered.  What you should have stated was, some of these offers are not legitimate, so let the buyer beware.

NO WHERE in this offer does it say you would have to pile on the cost of all the payments for 2012 on the top of the contracted amount, including the interest and the sales tax as you added to the sales amount as far as the state was concerned. NO WHERE in that text, and then I called.  The deal is FOR SURE, you get the vehicle and the contract is basically frozen until January 2013!!  Hello!!

It is all about the what a normal buyer would perceive the deal to be. When the actual BOLDED advertised statement reads: " MAKE YOUR FIRST PAYMENT IN 2013" ... that pretty much implies you would not have to make any payments until 2013.  Hello?  Just like the Arcticcat offer ... FREE FUN UNTIL 2013 (Free still means free to me)

I am getting the feeling the poster her deploys this trickery and is defending it.  Bottom line, the deal should be as legitimet as the other manufacturs offer .. plain and simple!

Clearly - Not a Rip Off

AUTHOR: Jim S - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, March 22, 2012

You wanted us to judge and determine if there is a ripoff??  The verdict is NO.  You made the assumption that no payments = no interest.  No such thing.   If you make no payments, interest accrues regardless of the deal.  Your post confirms there was no lie offered by dealership - no payments until 2013.  There is nothing illegal about anything based on the words in your story.  In the future, just walk away from the deal; there is nothing about "No payments until 2013" that is appealing.

Best of luck to you...

Ever hear of "Too good to be true"?

AUTHOR: Flynrider - (USA)

"BUY ANY NEW DODGE OR JEEP AND PAY NO PAYMENTS UNTIL 2013

When normal people see the statement above, the immediately wonder : Who's going to pay for that?    You see, it's unreasonable to expect a dealer to hand you a car at a smokin' deal and let you drive it around for free for 9 months.    It's much more reasonable to expect that if you don't have to make payments for 9 months, that you're going to be paying some very hefty payments to make up for it, after 9 months.    In other words, the kind of contract you have to enter to get a paymentless new vehicle for 9 months is going to have  a huge downside.

Of course there are always individuals who do not ask themselves these basic questions.   Those are the fish that the dealership was trying to catch with this ridiculous offer.   They figure if you are gullible enough to believe their pitch, you'll probably sign whatever lopsided deal they put in front of you.    From what I can tell from your post, that is exactly what happened.

What it really comes down to is this :   Is the deal you got specified on the sales contracts you signed?   If not, you can certainly go after the dealer for a breach, but given your post, I suspect that the dealer wrapped up that with plenty of signed paperwork.

  Good luck.

So

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, March 22, 2012

Did they not give you the no payments until 2013?  If they did then where in the heck is the RipOff?

Everything you described about "padding" the sale happens with EVERY sale.  You are NOT required to take any of it.  If they told you that you had to take it or you wouldn't be able to buy the car that would be an issue, but even by your own words it sounds like you had the option at every step to accept or decline each of these add-on's.

I objected to this principal because I would be paying the sales tax on the "padded" funds and I would be paying interest in the money padded to the lender to pay the payments.
- The offer you got never said "No Interest" it just said "No Payments", there is a BIG difference between the two.

The dealer agreed to absorb these fees and make the deal go through.
- Wait a minute..they then agreed to pay for those fees and you are still calling it a fraud?
