The first lie Charter College told me was they are an accredited college and their credits are accepted anywhere and they are in fact accredited.

However, when I commented to a staff member "Great that means I can roll them over to UAA (the local university) later" the staff member said Absolutely! Two years later I have found out that is not true. Universities can choose what institutions to take credits from and they will not take them from Charter College.

The second lie I was told or you can call it given "misinformation", was by another staff member when I was having a health issue, which eventually led to a surgery. I asked how many classes I was allowed to miss because I was concerned with being involuntarily withdrawn and she said 14 consecutive classes.

Then that lady moved on to different employment, I missed 5 classes and was involuntarily withdrawn with only 2 classes left to go and unfortunately that woman was no longer there and the conversation I had with her was over the phone and I had no proof.

In addition, I was unable to pay on my loans while in school and after my surgery and once I was withdrawn I had to pay off my balance of interest before I could enroll again and I have not been able to find employment at all to do so.

It seems that a great deal of employers have no respect for Charter College or want to hire their students.

Therefore regardless of the $15,000 I have spent on classes to achieve a certificate in accounting, I cannot find employment in that field, I can't find anything, but the low paying jobs I was getting before going to Charter College.

My life did not improve financially one bit after those classes, in fact it got worse because now I owe $15,000.

Also because I am behind on my loans I cant enroll at the university to get a 2 year degree to get a great paying job and even if I could I would have to start all over again because they will not except credits from Charter.

I have also since found out that I could have received an associates degree from the university for about $36,000 and the certificate at Charter costs $18,000 which again, I still havent received yet.

I worked hard on having good credit and it is now ruined because of loans for this awful school. Do not go to Charter College, they are a rip off, you will reap very little from what you sow here, and you will regret it.

Go to a university or a real college the staff here is full of liars and they are immensely unprofessional. I could tell many stories of the issues that arose with the staff and many of the students in my classes, but this is already a very long complaint. All I can say is PLEASE.....

Research your local educational institutions and ALL of your options and if you still decide to go to Charter College, get everything the staff tells you in writing. Email them your questions and have them respond to those emails to keep them as records.

That way when they lie to you about information you can have proof of their lies to sue them/not pay them. I sure wish I had done that and I am sure I will regret for years to come until I get that $15,000 paid off and I don't know how I am going to be able to do that without being able to pursue an education to get a better job.

I assure you I have contacted Charter on several occasions and many of the staff members there including other Charter offices outside of the state and gave them my doctors notes, everything and anything I could.

I have received nothing but a too bad so sad attitude and after the unprofessional experiences in the class rooms, two years of filing forbearances, and dealing with your collection agency, it has left me with nothing but frustration.

After two years of that, I feel it is my obligation to tell everyone my experience and give them the information I wish I had before I registered with your institution.

In addition I think it is amazing just how fast you responded to my letter seeing as how it can take days for me to get anyone on the phone from the student aid office. How do you explain such a quick response to my report on this specific site, RipOffReport.com?

If Charter is so great, why are there people like you keeping up on the things said on these kinds of sites?

This quick action of yours on such a site has made it blatantly obvious to me that you are fully aware of Charters reputation otherwise you would not be checking this site or receiving alerts from them every time someone has something awful to say about Charter College so you can run interference.

Well, I have said my peace and given the information, it is out there, and now peoplewho happen upon this site and others checking into Charter College can make an educated decision based on others experiences whether or not they would like
to enroll at Charter College.

Folks, I simply cannot stress that enough that when dealing with Charter College the more information you get the better! Let me just reiterate, check all of your local institutions for options before making a decision and especially before taking out loans.

It might take longer at a university, but it is your future and financial welfare on the line so please, gather all the information and talk to as many people as you can.

Hello Jennifer,

We are sorry to hear that you feel so negatively about your Charter College experience. We find some of your accusations very disconcerting and would like to speak with you about them. Please feel free to call the Anchorage Campus at 907.277.1000.

Also, we would like to mention that many of our graduates are successfully employed within their area of study and that we are proud of the positive relationships Charter College has fostered with area employers. Additionally, while Charter College is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools, the transferability of credits is at the complete discretion of the institution you wish to transfer to.  We have had graduates successfully continue their education at other institutions.

- Brandi, Charter College
