They charged me $126 for a purchase of only $5.28.

There was no prior notification for a "hold"

The charge was unauthorized and they lied about who authorized it, they said my credit card company made the authorization. My credit card company denied that they had authorized the charge.

my credit card alert stated that it was a purchase, not a hold

I guess when you only make billions of dollars in sales of pollution products annually they must resort to all out thievery to make up for losses. Even if it is for a couple of days. Makes your quarterly profit statements look good to shareholders.

My goodness, aren't you a little smarty pants?! Whine this: Carry a zero balance on all credit cards. Obviously your parent(s) were lacking in some guidance areas. Is this all you have to do all day? So sad. May I suggest getting a life?

This is a common practice when you slide your card at the pump. It is done to EVERY card. Be it credit or debit. After 72 hours the hold is released and you get the difference back. You can whine all you like, but something had to be done against all the consumers who like to steal gasoline. A hold ensures they get paid. If you do not like a hold on your card, then I suggest that you either GO INSIDE and pay for it or use CASH!! There is no other alternative. And if you think ONLY Chevron does this, think again. You may have swiped you card at other stations but this is the first time you have noticed a hold. I can assure you that EVERY gas station does this.

With all of the identity theft that goes on, a hold ensures that the card is good and not stolen. Its not about them padding their quarterly paperwork. Its about them getting paid. And really?!? If you did not know this practice happens, why are you useing a credit card?? I guess the 18.5% interest rate must be palatable for you.
