I have been a customer of Citizens bank for under a year and in that time have spent hundreds of dollars in overdraft fees.  Most of the time it is due to bad record keeping on my part.  But recently I have just had it with the implementation of new fees that allow the bank to really stick it to customers who overdraw their account.

Here's the backstory:
I wrote out a check to the city of Los Angeles to appeal the suspension of my license because of a bogus ticket.  A woman I spoke to said that if they granted my request the check would be cashed within a week.  Over a month had passed and the check did not post.  I figured they rejected my request.  I tried to call dozens of times to find out but it is so difficult to get through.

Well the check was posted a month and a half later and as a result my account was negative $3.82.  I was then charged a $39 fee, which I should have been charged and am not disputing.  I knew I needed to bring my account up but I am currently unemployed and money is very tight.  I did not have an unemployment check come in for another two weeks.  During that time Citizens charged me two additional fees.  $35 for each week my account was in the negative.  In total, I have spent $109 for overdrawing my account by $3.82.  I don't dispute the error as my own.  However, adding $35 a week is an exploitative, excessive practice that is absolutely wrong.

It frustrates me that the federal government gave banks the opportunity to add as many fees as possible before enforcing the new laws that will make it harder for banks to rip us off!!!  Come January, it will be illegal for banks to do this!  Why is it okay for them to do it now???
