Colonial Flooring Plus. Peter J. Escobar, AKA Pesco, Inc. Improperly installed floor. Looks like a bad patch work quilt. Have handicap parents and the floor has dangerous corners that are not glued down and adhesive smeared all over the tile tops. He finally admitted he had day laborers who were not as experienced as he is - put the floor down. Wallingford Connecticut

I ordered a Mojave slate tile floor from Colonial Flooring Plus in Wallingford, CT., owner Peter J. Escobar. The flooring was improperly installed.

Earth Werks Flooring's claim to fame is "Flooring Inspired by Nature". Peter markets/sells the flooring, stating, "When we put these Earth Werks Mojave tiles in for you, your floor will look just like a slate floor!"
Unfortunately, the inexperienced day workers that Peter hired for installation improperly installed them. Possibley, they were not licenced or experienced in laying a Earth Werks Mohave Slate floor, nor were they supervised or advised by the owner of the store. Which, I might state assured me and advertises as a "one stop shopping center." Installation is number one on our list. He stated he is fully insured for purchasing and installation of commercial and residential flooring to include Earth Werks Flooring and he uses experienced and top quality installers. He also, advertises a warranty on installation for a 1 year period from installation date.

As a unsatisfied customer I called him and asked him to meet me @ the house. I told him he would need to repair the problems and replace the tiled areas that were improperly installed. I also told him there was adhesive left on top of many tiles that now had already hardened.

At the house: Peter arrived ahead of me (the builder was there) When I walked in Peter was on the floor frantically scrubing the floor with a solvant chemical. I immediately asked him if that would ruin the finish on the floor. He said, "don't worry the finish will come back when it dries.

Manufacturer guidelines say to test a small area not visable first with cleaner and NOT to use a harsh solvant. Peter was scrubing 3 tiles in center of kitchen floor. Needless to say the finish on those never came back. We made it clear to him several times before he left that the tiles were dry and the finish did not come back. More ruined tiles! And still many more left with glue on them.

I showed him areas where tile corners were pertruding upward and not glued down properly.
Many areas when you walk you feel and hear tiles rising up and down, where the glue and tile was not secure. He became angry.
Peter also sold me and installed a "SUB FLOOR" so that the floor would be properly installed or flooring/installation would not covered by warranty if not purchased.

I pointed out the pattern of the floor. It looked like a patch work quilt that someone was trying to match the pattern to all go in the same direction. This is not even close to a natural slate looking floor. Where tiles were cut and pieced only the white area on the tiles were used through out the kitchen.

Peter continued to ignor the fact that the floor looked awful. He became angry and started to blame it on the tile itself. He told me he could only help me if I paid the balanced owed and would say that I was disatisfied with the Earth Werks as a product. He tried to convince me that I was unhappy with the Earth Werks Mojave tile. Which was not true.

He even called (on his cell phone) a distibutor and tried to convince him that I was unhappy with the tile (product) only. I asked to speak to the individual he was talking to. Peter reluctantly let me take the phone. I told the distributor with Peter present (right next to me) that I thought the tile was gorgeous and when installed with experience it would look like a slate floor.
Peter had reminded me on several occasions including this day of how much experience he has with flooring and installation, and how long he has been in the flooring business.
I wish my floor looked like the all the years of experience and expertese that Peter Escobar and Colonial Flooring Plus- A.K.A Pesco, Inc. claim to have. I want my deposit of $1165.00 returned and the amount it's going to cost me to take up this floor. Then, I can have an experienced/competent flooring company put down a Earth Werks slate floor that is installed properly. A company that stands by they're work; not one that hides behind day laborers or blames a distributor.
