I came to this school to get an education. I am 55 years old and a single mom. I do not have money to throw away which is what CTU financial aid department has been doing to me. I have yet to get my diploma from my Associates degree where I graduated last April because they said I owed them for a class I had to take over.

I noticed discrepancies in my tuition and how they were paying my student loans last year. When I dropped this class I only had one more class to take. They charged me $610 for the class to take over which was fine. Well all of a sudden two months later I am seeing that I owe $810. I questioned them about it they said it was a raise in education costs which did not make sense to me. Then they told me the government would not pay for my last class and that I would have to take another class in order to get them to pay for my tuition.

So I asked a couple different financial advisors what I should do. I was told you need to take over the class with your lowest grade and that they would pay for two classes. So I did the paperwork and retook the class. Well all of a sudden I look at my balance and now I owe $3410. I questioned them again why my balance was so high. They told me financial aid did not pay for the classes because I owed a previous balance.

I feel they knew all along it was not going to pay for it and left me stuck with a balance of $3410. I have paid my $610 off that I owed for the class and more. Still I have not received my diploma. They want me to pay for that class I was misinformed about before they will give it to me. I feel this is deceptive and they lied to me. I know they cheated me out of more money on education as well. I have gone over my financial statement and see discrepancies they can not account for.

I am not the only one this is happening to. There are many students there who have dropped out or can not finish their education because of the financial aid department.! Something needs to be done.

I was also scammed by CTU

AUTHOR: MLarsen - ()

I also went to CTU from July 2005 - December 2007.  I didn't get my diploma until April of 2010, and I had to pay $2500 for the d**n diploma. I thought it was a dream come true to go back to college after having three little ones. I wanted to make my mom proud of me before she passed on and he never got to see me graduate.

To begin with I was given tons of Financial Aid forms to fill out, and I trusted them, which was the worst mistake of my life.  I now owe close to $200,000 if not more for this 2 year college, I can't even begin to explain how that happened.

When I first signed up they said they did job placement, and resume help.  I had three little ones (Ages 8-1) on a fit and tight budget.  One of the classes that I should have been told about was a how to take college courses online, but they didn't tell me about the course until the very month that I was scheduled to graduate.  By then I had already signed the Financial Aid forms they sent me and they didn't include that payment which was $2500 for a course that a 3rd grader could have past not to mention it was after the fact that I had completed the courses required, but they said I had to take that to graduate.

I argue on the phone for hours asking why did they leave that out knowing I was scheduled to graduate, they said that in order for me to get my diploma I had to take the course and pay for it myself.  I then told them ok, but it would be when I could pay for it because I was already struggling financially and I had a ill mother battling cancer at the time.

I finished the course and I was scheduled to graduate in December 2007, I never got a congratulations your graduated, instead I got threatening calls to pay for the course they forgot to mention 2 years prior when I first signed up.  I never received anything from them but bills.

Prior to this incident I complained about the school books they sent, because non were revelant to the course, and I sent long hours trying to find information both online and at the libraries to obtain information to complete assignments.  I also complained about the teachers and their lack of teaching. They basically were there just to post assignments and grade, they didn't teach or discuss.  If you didn't participate in group chats that were pointless and useless they took points off your grade yet they were never available to answer your questions on assignments.

I never got help with job placement nor resume. It's been 6 years, I owe close to $200,000 and I don't even have a job.  I can't even get Joann Fabric's hire me with my so called Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.  I have sent tons of resumes throughout US and no luck either.  I had to pay the $2500 in 2010 to get my diploma for a job I had applied for but ended up not being a good paying job after all, so I'm out of thousands of money and owing the government, because they tricked me into signing Financial Aid and Private loans for student loans that was not worth it!

I only dropped one class during this time not several classes. There was only one advisor that advised me to retake the class. They knew it would not cover the class when they advised it. They lied to me.

Sounds about right.

It sounds like you did a bunch of dropping/retaking classes below the 6 credit hour minimum required for financial aid, and while having a past due balance.

"So I asked a couple different financial advisors what I should do"

That was your mistake.  Start and finish with one advisor, otherwise you will be taking advice from someone who doesn't know the whole story.
