As a certified PMP project manager, CTG wanted me to bring on billable CTG consultants to the client site when the client was not ready for them - meaning: no cubicle, no workstation, no laptop, no network access, no user names/passwords, no chair, no job description, and no roles & responsibilities assigned. Basically, CTG wanted me to hire these people to 'sit there and breathe' at an hourly rate of $115 to $135 so that in three - four weeks time when the client was 'ready' for them, they could start actually working. This was STRONGLY requested by an overzealous, unethical, and blatantly untruthful account manager. She would do ANYTHING to get consultants placed on site (due to a financial incentive/bonus given to her for placements). Her actions alone were sneaky, underhanded, and dishonest - forcing me to prepare for whistle-blowing actions. After making several calls to my practice director (which were not returned), I was suspiciously 'laid off' within 3 weeks.
I am a 'steady' worker with very little gaps in my work history (once during the downfall of the dot.com craze) and have received several awards for recognition of service, outstanding effort, spirit, etc. To find myself sold into a PM position where I was not only asked/forced to question CTG's billable practices, but to then find myself laid off three weeks later has been one of the most disappointing experiences in my life. While interviewing with CTG, I was promised certification for CPHIT, CPEMR, etc., only to find that when my future manager said, 'yes - we have that as part of our technology library' - when I checked, no such materials for certification were available (or bought - or existed at CTG). A simple 'let me see' would have sufficed - unfortunately, this person took it upon himself to blatantly lie to me just so that I would accept the CTG offer and not the other 2 offers at hand. I was also 'guaranteed' an exceptional bonus due to the fact that I tend to get 'dug in' with the client and wind up working long, hard shifts (i.e., Emergency Rooms at 3:00 am implementing software), etc., outside the normal 40-hour work week. During a dinner conversation w/the existing on-site CTG executive lead, the rest of the team and I were told that no such 'exceptional' bonus existed - and that it was based on a 40-hour work week only. To say that the team was disgruntled with CTG's 'once again - attempt at lying just to get you on board' is an understatement.
Although I have been diagnosed with a chronic illness for 7 years now, I am still able to work 100% of the time with minimum impact to my employment. The severity of my disease leaves me in a lot of pain in the mornings - and when I travel - I sometimes (depending on pain level) will utilize the hotels handicap room. Several times over dinner conversations, one of CTGs executive leads made the comment: "At least I'm not staying in the retard room". When I asked, what's the 'retard room', I was told it was the handicap room. Apparently, this executive from CTG assumes anyone using or having to use a hotels' handicap room is retarded or mentally deficient. When I informed yet another executive (lead) on the team that I had to wait for injections via Fed-Ex, I was told specifically NOT TO TELL my client the GORRY details of my illness. What an incredibly unsupportive, cruel and ignorant work environment CTG not only supports - but maintains.
Calls to my immediate supervisor were unreturned - and in fact, the only call I finally did receive from him was notice of being laid off. To date, I have filed an EEOC claim and seeking an attorney to follow-up on this situation. I have never sued anyone before - nor have I filed an EEOC claim before - thus, I am just trying to get the word out to anyone who will listen that if CTG claims they have a perfect job and that it is something is TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE - It probably is. Beware - don't risk your career, your health, or mental anguish over this unethical, fraudulent, lack of policy and procedure company. There are so many great companies out there - one's that watch the bottom line and the consulting burn rate of the client - and one's that are just out to make a dime on the nationwide healthcare EMR (Electronic Medical Record) implementations - regardless of how much it will eventually impact the COST to the consumer. CTG is one that will cost the consumer in the end.
