Having joined the ranks of the unemployed, I began my job search on Boston's Craigslist.

I answered an ad in search for an Administrative Assistant and happily sent my resume.
This morning I received a reply from Altar Boston, the company whose ad I had replied to. Mind you, this name or any other company name had not appeared in their job posting. Warning sign number one?

The reply they had sent me was an odd one that made me question the validity of the company. Quote:"Before we schedule and interview, I need you to do a free credit check through this company that we've been working with for years. Go to this link (((Redacted))) and get your credit report, we will be alerted via an e-mail notification.  Before you worry, we are NOT judging your credit score, nor do we get access to your private information, such as your social security number.  Secondly, this absolutely CANNOT be worked around, I do apologize for the sensitivity in this matter, but it is strict company protocol.  Think of it this way, would you want the employees handling your financial information to get properly screened? I'm sure your answer would be yes!"

The email went on to say if I did not do this I would not be granted an interview. As well, in no way, shape or form, did the email describe what their company actually did. Showing the email to my boyfriend, he did a little computer research and we found that the URL for the free credit report led to the very same company that had been reported on Ripoff Report. The company name is Mighty Net.

I am appalled. I am furious. This company or person is preying on innocent people who are facing hardship and are only looking for work. My hope is that those who did answer this ad were able to see the warning signs and refrained from following the instructions.

As well, I hope  that who ever is behind this ad that was posted on Craigslist receives the due justice that criminals and predators like this deserve.
