CTI (central trucking inc.); Springfield,MO. I started in March of 09, soon after buying load locks($40 each) they disappeared and I was told the company would buy new ones (when I was hired),had been replaced 2 months later with broken load locks and grease covered, to keep of course. I signed up for insurance on orientation day, but unfortunately after 3 months I did not qualify (for insurance)due to running only 7700 miles each month (I never asked for a day off). Further more they CUT MY PAY to .27 cpm for not running the 9,000 miles a month to be considered full time (you will NEVER see 9,000). I sat for as many as 4 days at truck stops waiting on freight, (most of the time only 3) and rarely saw detention pay if any I think it was 25$ a day,but hardly ever saw that. I sat more than I ran, you will NEVER make any money with these folks, I went in the hole and every driver I talked to told me the same, and if you get 3 log book violations, they will fire you,you must also pay for your (pre-employment) physical and drug screen(90$). Every time I picked up a trailer, it had to go to the shop (3-4 hours) for some reason of another, and if they found a scratch in a truck, YOU PAY! Slip seat is company policy, and the trucks stink and are nasty, and when you do get home you may wait 3-5 days to get back out. I HIGHLY recommend all drivers to stay clear from this company and move on, I drive for PRIME now, and am completely satisfied.

Conflicting Issues

AUTHOR: Billy - (United States)

POSTED: Thursday, January 11, 2018

I drove for this company from January 2003 until August 2003. I have read all of the complaints and reports on this particular post and have much to say about this.

Mileage-I never had any issues with this at all. You learn to keep that left door shut, you will always get the miles that are necessary to make money. And never be afraid to take a load, especially Jasper loads, and never refuse a load. These are the things that will cause ANY dispatcher with ANY company to NOT want to give you loads and/or miles. You alone can choose your success or lack of it in this industry.

Mileage Pay-Now this is one of the areas that I do have a complaint about. They started me at $0.25/mile. But with only 5-6 months experience at the time, I was just happy to have a job being back out on the road again and was willing to take the pay. They should always start everyone out at $0.35/mile regardless.

Insurance Benefits-Never had an issue with this. I was covered from day one I started paying out. Even got to meet the insurance rep very shortly after that. And she was very helpful and informative so that I knew exactly what I was paying for and could make any changes that I felt that I needed to.

Truck Insurance-Another area I have a HUGE complaint about. The company is scamming drivers on this. They claim to have a $1,000 deductible and that the driver is responsibly for paying that if any damage done to the truck and/or trailer and/or load that is considered the drivers fault by them only. And it does not matter how much damage was done, IF damage was actually done, WHO did the damage, IF it was pre-existing damage, what the cost of the damage was, or if they even replace and/or repair the damage. One time I was coming back from Idaho and was caught in a massive ice, snow and wind storm in Wyoming. Ended up dragging my air lines and caused them to rub on the ground and cause an air leak. The wrecker driver showed up, popped my hood, and when he went to shut it, SLAMMED it down multiple times and jammed the hood into the hood bracket, damaging the hood on that side badly. I reported it to the CTI and after I got back and the inspection bay saw and reported it, I was called in to the office where I was blamed for everything. They tried to state that it was all my fault because I ran out of fuel in the truck, which I did not do. In fact, when the wrecker showed up, the truck was still running. they contacted the wrecker company, confirmed that the truck was still running when they got there and that the driver did indeed cause the damage to the truck, and CTI told me that either I paid $1,000 or I was fired. Then they gave me a trailer that had multiple scraps on the side of it, which was not only documented on THEIR own inspection reports, but they already even had pics of the damage. When I got back to the yard, they claimed that I did the damage, took more pictures of it and then sent me to the office again. After I looked at the pictures that they provided to me, they even confirmed that the damage was the exact same, but still told me that I had to pay them $1,000 for that. Another time, I had back up under a trailer that was lifted too high and accidentally damaged the cab extender. MY FAULT ON THAT ONE. They told me that I had to pay the $1,000 deductible for that. I told them that I had no issues doing that but I told them that in order for me to fully agree to pay it that I wanted the cab extender and proof that it was actually replaced on that particular truck. They refused to show me proof, but did claim that it was indeed replaced. I saw the truck about 2-3 weeks later and the same damage to the cab extender was still there. And the last time that was my drawing point was when I had hauled a load of apples from Washington that I relayed to another driver in Edinburgh, IN. The doors were opened and the load was inspected and signed off as a good load. The other driver took the load and hauled it to Crafton, PA. About 2 months later, they tried to claim that 3 pallets had fallen and was refused by the receiver and that I would have to pay the $1,000 deductible for that and that the other driver had to pay the same deductible. I told them that the moment that they produce 3 pallets of apples to me that I would pay the deductible, but not until then. When they told me that they would not produce the apples, I told them that I was done and that I was quitting.

Slip Seating-When I started driving for them, they informed me that they were a slip seat company and that I could stay in the truck overnight, but then I could stay in the truck for months. I told them that that was not going to work for me and that if they wanted a driver that would be the most productive that they could be, they would leave me in the truck that they assigned me to for as long as I wanted to. They did agree to that.

Maintenance-Now this is an area that leaves a lot to be desired. The first truck that they gave me was an ok truck. The second truck that they gave me when I came back from my home time was JUNK. It was a 2002 379 with the Cummins motor that spent alomst as much time in the shops as it did on the road. They had replaced the water pump about a month before I got the truck, but when they put it all back together, they did not use any matching bolts, the water pump leaked, through off the pulley, threw belts every time I turned around, leaked oil so fast that it might as well have changed its own oil.

Home Time-They never gave me any issues with home time. When I wanted home, they got me home. They did even have a policy that stated that they would not allow drivers to take their trucks home for home time, but they would always allow me to.

Detention Pay-This is one area that I only had to worry about twice. Once I had 5 picks with the 2nd one that held me up so long that it made me late for the next 3, of course. But they did pay me after 2 hours. And the other time was when I was getting ready to pick up strawberries that were field fresh, and that held me up for a whole day due to the fact that they did not reap enough produce so I had to wait until the next day to get loaded. Again, no problems getting paid for 24 hour detention.

Directions-Now here is where I can definitely complain about. They sent me on a load that was detailed for exact directions that you had to follow to get to the receiver. Those directions I followed to a "T". Got pulled over and ticketed for being overweight for the road (no bridges or over passes). even the officer saw the directions that were given on the paperwork, coincided it with the QualComm, and still gave me the ticket. The company refused to pay for it and refused to make the shipper pay for it either.

Now, with all of that being said, all in all they are not a bad company nor a great company. just like any other company you go to work for, you get out what you put in to it. I would consider going back to work for them only if they would allow a truck that is PRE-elds. They have some great freight, or at least used to, and can keep the right drivers running and making money. Would I ever lease a truck from them or work as a company driver again? More than likely not. The only way that I would come back as a company driver is if they do not slip seat me, run me the way that I want to run, and they pay me MUCH better than they used to.

This company shows nice pictures of the CTI trucks, how clean and promising they look. They are the most filthy trucks! The fridge are nasty, the beds are not protected and stained. Yes bring yourself extra bed protection with lysol. No matter of the windows ate down, frebrez, candles, airfreshner, those trucks are bad! I hope someone will file a lawsuit on the work conditions CTI had there employees work in. I developed bronchitis from the 3rd hand smoke. Why wait for some one to get cancer, or bedbugs, worse, scabies. How to fix: Make it a policy of no smoking in trucks. Put all mattress in a protective plastic made for beds In force the cleaning after yourself after each run (Billy get off his wife and go check trucks) No one can fight with me on this one, I'm not throwing stones. I want justice, just not knowing how to get it.

My name is Steve Sanders ,Me and My wife Liz drove for CTI for several years. They let Us do what We wanted to do .We made more in two days running the Kingman relay than both of Us could have made working 50 hours at a 12 dollar an hour job! Most of the dispatchers are down to earth country boys and will do every thing in the world to work with You! Just like any trucking job ,They have there Ups and downs, But with Us , it was mostly up.

First off your being a bit hard on the guy because you only know the truth as you see it.You said yourself you are a shuttle driver which pretty much guarantees what you are going to be doing. He on the other hand obviouly has no idea what he is doing untill they give him a load, that is a big difference.

As far as the load locks, have you ever had permission to break a seal just to get your load locks,I doubt it.

Then you say that common law requires that he pays for scratched or damged equipment.I don't know what country your from, but that is not the way it is,that is why everyone carries insurance, also if someone is charging for the damage I can almost guarantee that they are pocketing the money and laying it on the insurance company anyway.

As I have said before,I don't go by the drivers that are happy for 2 big reasons,1 if the company didn't make someone happy they would have no one,2 because some drivers will do anything including kissing butt or selling out fellow drivers so they can live better.Believe me after 39 years of putting up with trucking companies I can just look at people and tell you who's doing what.

Then there is the fact that this company has had so many reports against it,does that make all of these people liars or lazy because you are happy?

You should be thanking God for what you have instead of bragging about it and what a wonderful hard worker you are.

I wish everyone nothing but the best and God Bless.

#1 UPDATE Employee

Very Happy CTI Driver

AUTHOR: HeadlightChaser - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, March 18, 2012

I am shocked by the negative comments I am reading about CT!!

I started in October, 2011 out of the Amarillo Terminal. I am a shuttle driver to either Seligman, AZ or Springfield, MO from Amarillo Terminal. I bought my own load locks, install them in each trailer I pull, and remove them before I leave the trailer, so I have not lost any load locks, either.

Personally, I get plenty of miles every week and therefore I need to do a weekly 34-hour restart, but most of the time, I get back to the Amarillo Terminal and do that at home!

The reports I get from Dispatch are that they have a number of drivers that do not want to work on the weekends, and it is therefore difficult to achieve the required 9,000 miles per month they expect drivers to drive in a month to qualify for full-time status.

Ocassionally, I take an extra day during my restarts, but usually, I go back out on the final day of my restart, and I get plenty of miles each week to earn a decent paycheck!

My mileages for a week are 3,000-3,600 miles per week, so I do not understand what I am reading about poor mileages. It is therefore very easy to be satisfied with my job with CTI!

I guess I just am willing to work and not sit at home, in a truck stop or casino and waste time, piss away money or play video games! Grow up, and act like a professional adult!

I am a "professional driver" so am dedicated to doing what they need me to do, and avoid arguments with dispatch unless it is a safety issue. We are all on elogs so logbook violations are not a problem, either. If the logbook says you are out of hours, you just shut down, and avoid playing mind games with yourself as to how to cheat the system. Greed causes people do very stupid things!

If you scratch or damage their equipment, common law requires that you pay to get the damage repaired, so what is your issue with that? You have the opportunity to do an inspection on any piece of equipment you are assigned to take, but if you fail to do that, you will have to pay for the damages someone else did, because you were too lazy to do your job!

You can either work for your mileage pay, or work for CTI. The best approach is the last one, and stop majoring in minor issues, in my opinion!

I keep my personal expenses low, avoid frivilous payments for boats, extra vehicles and video games so I can live comfortably even during a bad weather week. Try it, you'll like the reduced stress!
