Hired this guy and his company to pour a 20X40 stamped concrete pad in July of 2011. After several "miss-start's", and after giving him 50% down, the job started end of August. Right in the middle of the pour, owner calls my cell phone and says he miss-calculated and needs to add a couple more inches to the pad. Remember for this report, he quoted us $6800 in the very beginning. We also decided to personally remove our porch because he said he could do the stamped concrete there as well and if we added the front walk way (maybe 10 ft. X 10 ft.) he would it do at cost (around $700 or so for the walk and $1200 for the actual porch area).

Once everything was done, the damage had already begun. #1 - when they poured our porch, they did not re-level one of the porch post and they concreted it in at an angle. #2- cracks started to spider in one big section on the back pad. #3- a brass cap that was promised (to go over a septic pipe) was not installed. All of this was brought up to the owner so he came out to look, literally days after the job was completed. He said he would fix the front, fix the cracking (it JUST started and was not very bad at the time), and the cap would be out in the next few days. Over the course of several months I played phone and text tag with this guy.

EVERY time it was "I will get to you, don't worry" and "Can't get out there right now, am backed up with jobs", etc. It was just about every excuse in the book. On one occasion, I had called and he let slip that he was flying back from vacation in Mexico. Really? Our FINAL total, that we paid to you in cash, was just under $13K and you go to Mexico while a very unhappy customer of yours is staring at a crap job you did? As a business owner myself, I was just simply amazed that this guy could not give a rip. Finally I decided to call and get 2nd opinions not just from other concrete companies in our area but also a concrete inspector that used to work for the Corp's.

This guy's job, for 30 years, was to inspect the concrete dams along the Snake and Columbia rivers. Anyway, bottom line? All said the same thing: A.) You can't fix dumb when a guy concrete's your front porch post in sideways, break it free and patch up the best you can. Maybe put in a bigger post to hide all the chipping that will happen as a result of the removal. B.) Go by yourself a cap even though you probably already paid for it at 3X it's actual value. and C.) Yes, he should of put in a break joint in that 16 ft. section but he didn't and it will cost you thousands to re-pour and no one will get the stamp and color to match...

I have even found 2 other people that have similar stories as mine (of course, AFTER the fact that we hired this guy for our job) but, more importantly, DAM's comment that "sorry, concrete cracks" is NOT true. If the guy had put that joint in, it would not have cracked. Did other area's crack that had the proper joints placed? No. To sum this up, I filed a complaint with our local BBB. They have given this guy 60 days and 2 different written notices to reply. He hasn't and today they closed the complaint as "no reply" so at least his BBB rating dropped from an A to now, a D-.

Taking him to court will be more money so the only lasting thing we can do to this shyster is to tell everyone we know who he is and explain our story. It sucks, that as a consumer, there does not seem to be much that can be done. The final thing this guy said to me was "Go ahead and complain, one unhappy customer isn't going to break my business." I honestly feel that more and more people are developing this attitude when it comes to their practices and it's just too bad. For those of us that are honest business people, we pay the price because more and more folks are leery because of the actions of companies like DAM Concrete.
