AUTHOR: Thejawsman - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 14, 2009

As a former employee of a collection agency that does business with DFS, there are A LOT of customers who don't receive their billing statements. Although I can't really quote you a percentage, there was a lot of DFS customers I had spoken with who had not received billing statements. And this wasn't because they moved recently.

Whether it's intentional or their mail service is just atrocious, I can't be sure. I do remember one of my managers telling me that it was DFS business strategy so they could make more money off of late fees and interest. (I neither dispute nor support that statement)

Also I heard of multiple cases where the DFS customer service people were told of a change in the address and somehow the change never went into the system.

Best thing here is to be on top of your finances...Dell may tell you to wait for a billing statement, but don't. If your due date passes, you get a late fee whether you received a billing statement or not. The amount of the late fee depends on your overall balance.

I will say that DFS has been FAR more generous these past few months in granting individual collectors the authority to waive late fees. However, they need to hear your objection to late fees BEFORE they grant you that waiver...
