My husband and i purchased a time share from Diamond Resorts International at powhatan plantation back in the 80′s. We were given two weeks of vacation time for less than $15,000. Several years down the line we started being approached by sales reps from diamond resorts telling us weeks were a thing of the past and points were the way to go. We could increase our vacation time and have the flexibility of not being locked into a whole week vacation…

Well 5 years ago, we fell for this trap and exchanged our deeded property at powhattan for points…..

Dumb, dumb dumb…………….

We have not been able to book one single vacation since doing so…….Every time we call for a reservation they are all booked and have no availability. This has happened over and over again…..But when you call for a rental they have dozens available!!!!! How is that possible? How can people who own points have no where to go, but the renters have all the space they need, when they need it?????

The Diamond Resorts International representative misrepresented the details big time……He made it seem like diamond resorts had so much more to offer and even advised us to call him so he could help us sell our points when we werent using them.

Well obviously, we were not educated consumers, because like so many others before us, we have been deceived and are now paying the price…..

Someone somewhere has got to help us put a stop to this scammm enough is enough….These people have taken people’s savings and turned it into a bottomless pit of which they have made themselves the owners!!!!!

If there is anyone out there who knows how we can stop this scam, please help us get out of this mess….These people should be locked away on an island for the rest of their lives……….They are nothing but vicious, heartless people taking advantage of unsuspecting vacationers and their families……

Please, tell us how we get away from these folks…………Diamond Resorts International are destroying the vacation dream of thousands of unsuspecting families!!

I am a Senior Consultant with Timeshare Advocacy International. I get calls from people complaining about Diamond all the time!  They are one of the timeshares that we get the most complaints about.

Everyone I talk to walks out of the timeshare presentation believing the same three things. 1. They believe that they are going to get great customer service as timeshare owners. (Not true.) 2. They believe that ownership has privileges, and that their vacation life is going to get easier.(Also not true) and 3. They believe that they are somehow "freezing" time  because they think if they make a smart decision to buy at 2005 prices, then they will be vacationing at 2005 prices in 2015. (Definitely NOT true, because the maintenance fees and points are subject to inflation!)

Your ONLY mistake was sitting in that chair. Seriously. They have the best sales people in the world. They have the room all staged. They even have fake buyers at some of these presentations making it seem like everyone is doing it because it's such a great deal and you will be missing out if you don't do it. My company has had doctors, lawyers, financial planners, and judges as clients, and if they can fall for this scam then anybody can.

They use high pressure sales tactics, and that "90 minute" sales presentation ends up lasting hours and hours until people get to the point that they feel like they are being held hostage unless they buy.

Almost ALL of the money you paid for the timeshare goes straight to the commission of the sales rep!!! The resort is happy to pay them this high commission because they know that the sales rep got you to sign a contract obligating you to pay increasing maintenance fees for the rest of your life, AND what they don't tell you is that those maintenance fees automatically get passed on to your children when you die.

They are famous for tricking people into upgrading at an "Update meeting" but the truth is no matter how many points you have, it will never ever be enough to use your timeshare the way that they promised you would be able to.

Whatever you do, DO NOT try to sell your timeshare. Those resale companies are a SCAM as bad as the timeshare! They will take your money and skip town, or they will list your timeshare for sale on a website and it will sit there for 10, 20, 30 years without ever selling. I talk to people all the time who have gotten ripped off by one of those places. Search for timeshares on ebay and you will see hundreds and hundreds of them for sale for only $1 with no bids on them. They aren't worth anything unfortuantely.

Those donation places aren't much better. They way overcharge for a deed transfer and then might give SOME of the money you paid them to the charity. Seriously though, what charity can you think of that would like to inherit those increasing maintenance fee debts??

I would also not advise hiring an attorney because they require a retainer fee, and by law they are not allowed to offer a money back guarantee, so you could just be spending more money with no results. More likely than not, they will tell you that you are stuck because you signed the contract, but there are some attorneys who get people out through foreclosure, although I don't recommend that for your credit.

I am so sorry that this happened to you and I don't know how these timeshare people sleep at night!
