Government Action:
On December 15, 2010, this company entered into a settlement agreement with 49 state attorney Generals to resolve charges brought by the States alleging misleading sales and marketing practices.

You can read a detailed report about the findings of the multi-state investigation at the BBB website.  Simply type in DirecTV, Inc. in the "Business and Charity Reviews" box.  You may type in your state, or California.

If your issues with DirecTV sound like any of the findings which were to be corrected per the settlement with the 49 states AG offices, then give your local State AG's office a call to file a complaint for noncompliance with the settlement agreement.

In addition, we have all watched the legislative changes in credit card servicing etc. change over the past few years after enough people raised HELL.  I am thinking, from the alarming statistics I am reading about the practices of Direct TV at this website and others, we should each and all be writing a letter to our State AGs, with a copy going to the FCC, and more importantly, to our State Senators/Congress.

Hope this helps someone out there from being yanked around.  Next time you speak to a DirecTV rep, you may want to refer to the 49 state investigation, and the settlement agreement.  Maybe they will listen, maybe not.  Happy New Year everyone!  Make a resolution to empower yourself against RIP OFFs!
