We were unhappy with the intermittant satellite service from Dish. Latter we found out that Dish had upgraded the system because it was over-loaded, however they did not upgrade us, or contact us with the option to upgrade. Customers on the old over-loaded service were just left to suffer. We finished the 2 year contract per agreement. Account paid in full, through auto-pay.

At dissconect we were told that if the equipment was not returned in 15 days we would have to pay for it. We would be sent packaging with pre-paid postage. No option to drop it off in town at the office was offered, just as easy as taking it in to town to post-office.

Dish recieved full payment through auto-pay and Dish closed out our account. After a few months they started calling us to pay postage for the return of the equipement. We explained that we were not liable for postage and had never agreed to paying postage, that they had gotten the last payment and they had closed our account.

After calling us daily for weeks and being told repeatedly we would not pay $17.00 for the 'pre-paid' postage hat we never agreed to pay, Dish turned the amount over to collections. We explained the same to the collections folks, no we are not going the pay the postage as we never agreed to pay it and it was not a part of our contract. A company can't make up charges after an account is closed and demand payment.

Nearly 2 years later it is on my credit report. How dare you use credit reporting to punish me for an illegal request for a payment that was not a part of my contract. This is an unethical collection of funds and I am not the first person to complain about this practice. Dish needs to change this practice and be held accountable to their customers.

I will never recommend dish to anyone based on the poor business practices we experienced.

DISH UNETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICES -SEARCH DISH & SEE

AUTHOR: jnjtrnavsky - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, March 04, 2014

Ken,

You must enjoy irritating people as you seem to go around making this same comment if it applies or not. Defend DISH, I don't believe you are not affiliated with them.

I really appreciated the report from the woman who had the same thing happen and this has nothing to do with the contract. We both fulfilled our contracts. It has to do with the way DISH does business.

What is really STOOPID is that you don't even understand the issue.

Rip-off report is a wonderful way for information to be distributed to the general public regarding poor business practice. It is really unfortunate that you are using it to be spiteful and take your anger out on people. It is inconsiderate, rude and annoying.

Thanks to all those complaints against DISH it's obvious they have the problem. Maybe they will wake up and take note.

Your problem however has no solution.

Unethical Practices & BAD SERVICE & wrong information

AUTHOR: jnjtrnavsky - ()

POSTED: Tuesday, March 04, 2014

You seemed to respond to ONE point and one point only in so doing you have missed the issue.

1. Our internet service did not work, more often than not we did not have internet. Worst service I have ever had, never had such intermittant service.

2. Dish knew about this and resolved the bad service, but did not offer better service to existing customers, just put new ones into the new system. (Per local installers this was unethical of Dish as they could have let us know and upgraded us)

3. Our equipment was returned per contract in perfect condition.

4. There is allowance to deliver the equipment in other ways than 'pre-paid' postage.

5. Dish had access to bill us for the postage through auto-pay when they closed the account, why close the account and then send a bill months after the account is closed.

6. We are not the only ones who have been mislead by rude phone operators at disconnect and told to "just use the per-paid postage" but NOT BE INFORMED THAT THE PRE-PAID postage is on us!

7. When most people hear PRE-PAID they don't expect to get a bill to cover the PRE-PAID postage. Not that oh I'll pre-pay the postage for you and then charge you for it.

8. There are other options than the PRE-PAID postage and these were not mentioned.

9. Customers who call and ask , "tell me exactly what my contract requires to return this equipment" are not being advised with the entire truth, they are mislead with half truths and this is UNETHICAL.

You may read all the small print on your contract to your hearts content, but by providing MISLEADING & PARTIAL information DISH is UNETHICAL. If a company wants me to pay to return equipment, FINE NO PROBLEM. Just don't mislead me. Obviously if a customer is unhappy with the service when they disconnect the option could be MENTIONED that dropping off the equipment at the office is a viable solution to the PRE-PAID postage option. I.E. return the equipment either this way or this way. The emphasis is on YOU WILL BE SEVERELY PENALIZED IF YOU DONT RETURN OUR EQUIPMENT FASTER THAN FAST. We had no desire to not return the equipment. Some day a 50 or 60 year old man is going to fall off the roof getting the equipment down and they will have a law-suit.

I maintain my stand. Wrong to mislead folks especailly the retired, disabled and elderly.

There was another post on the same issue that helped me see that I'm not the only one falling into the trap.

Credit bureaus agreed and removed the issue from my credit report.

My service was a rip-off from day one. My husband will never consider phone service (VOIP) that requires internet because of the intermittant DISH internet service. It was unreliable. Even now after years of reliable service he doesn't trust it. Thanks to DISH. OK so rub salt into the wound and RIP-off one more time at disconnect by withholding information.

It's really strange that YOUR copy of the Dish contract doesn't mention the return charges...

AUTHOR: Ken - ()

Mine SPECIFICALLY states that "The satellite receivers, smart cards and remote controls provided by Dish pursuant to this agreement are the property of Dish Network and must be returned to Dish Network. .............You are responsible for and shall bear all costs and expenses to return such satellite receivers, smart cards and remote controls.  Guess you must have forgotten that plainly written clause in ALL their contracts.  They did NOT rip you off.  You either didn't read it or lied about it.

No, I don't now and never have worked for Dish, but have used their service since its inception. No notable problems with any of their service in all those years.

Looks like YOU ripped yourself off and there was NO retaliation from them, only an attempt to collect what YOU owed.

You did ALL this to yourself, if you haven't figured it out yet.  You really showed them!
