1 mg. Propecia is a popular brand name drug for stopping male hair loss. The cost is about $210.00 for a 90 day supply. The patent just expired and Dr. Reddy Laboratories, Ltd. has now come out with the first generic 1 mg called Finasteride (the generic of Propecia). Since they have exclusive rights for the first 90 days (to gouge the public), they are charging $150 for a 90 day supply!!
5 mg of Finasteride has been out in generic for a while, to treat prostate cancer I believe. The cost for 100 of the 5 mg. is only $21.00!! That is crazy.
That means I can get a YEAR supply of 1.25 mg of Finasteride by cutting up the 100 5 mg pills into 1/4s for $21.00 as opposed to getting Dr. Reddys Laboratories, Ltd. generic 1 mg for $150 for a 90 day supply (or $600 for a year supply). Of course in about November there will be about 8 more manufacturers of the generic and the price will drop. But why do they have to rip the public off like this. They suck!!
