I Purchased a great dane puppy from this "breeder"  took him for all his normal routine shots and check ups like a responsible pet owner should do.

Puppy reached 12 weeks of age and went for an ear crop performed by a licensed veterinarian, soon after his drop off my vet called to let me know he died of an enlarged heart ( a genetic defect) which is in a contract to be covered by Dukes danes for up to 2 years!

Pathology was sent in for more testings and they found lesions on his heart, an enlarged heart, and pulmonary congestion. I sent in all this paperwork along with an x ray to show his heart and christine duke owner breeder of dukes danes in hamilton al refused to replace him saying it was my vets fault that the puppy died.

I have two vets reports stating he had a genetic defect along with 2 seperate pathology reports, christine duke said her vet, which she never could give me a written report from or even give me a phone number/ name to contact said it was my vets fault he died.

This "breeder" should not be used and is selling puppies with defects, she refuses to contact me even though I have tried many different ways. She will not refund nor replace him and has withheld all my vet documentations I have sent her.  If you are looking for a great dane puppy do not use Dukes danes in hamilton al owned by Christine Duke!

I upheld all contract agreements and have been trying to find out more about what happened. I feel that this buyer needs more of an explanation to what happened to her puppy. When buyer first contacted me about the puppy passing away I was shocked! She had text-ed me and stated that her puppy passed away from an enlarged heart. Naturally I called her to talk to her directly about what happened. The fact that the puppy was undergoing surgery was never mentioned to be until I received autopsy report paperwork. I was jsut told that her vet to her that the puppy died of enlarged heart. Before I received the paperwork I researched enlarged heart in Great Danes. I never found where enlarged heart was a genetic problem nor did I ever find a case where the Dane was under adult age that had passed away from the condition. When reviewing the buyers autopsy reports I read that all vital signs and cardiac test were normal before surgery. Also her vet stated and I quote,  " Visual postmortem inspection did not reveal any significant abnormalities." "In 32 years career I have encountered a similar circumstance in two Great Dane ear trims resulting in death, both of these cases went into cardiac arrest within 3 minutes of post-op recovery." Pathology reports from these cases did not reveal anything abnormal." "Unless any information from Pathology report is different it is my belief that some pets are sensitive to medications used in surgical procedures that sensitize that heart and other organs to irregularities thereby causing cardiac arrest." "While such cases are rare they do occur".

Now everything in quotes above are word for word statements from buyers vet. Buyers vet tried reviving the puppy by beginning cardiac massage and positive pressure ventilation. IV line was reconnected to the puppy and infused with epinephrine. This was unsuccessful and was stopped after 25 minutes. Lesions and slight enlargement of the heart are what the pathology report stated. I asked my vet about it and he said that those two things are what usually happens after attempts to start the heart back up again and was not uncommon. I never said that it was anyone's fault that this happened to her puppy. After showing all Pathology paperwork to my vet he agreed with her vet about happened. I also never recieved any kind of x-ray of this puppy's heart as she says. I told buyer that I was very sorry about her loss but that I could not replace her puppy on that the fact that it passed away undergoing surgery. If this would have been a genetic defect then of course I would replace her puppy as promised in my contract. I have spoken with buyer all times that she has contacted me and I sent her reports back to her and do not understand why she is stating otherwise. If she never received her reports in the mail she should have contacted me to let me know. Google actually contacted me to inform me that there was a ripoff report on me posted on the internet! I very shocked at the false accusations about me and me as breeder! Now that I know that she never recieved her pathology paperwork I will be making a copy of my copy and resend it. I sent her all of her original paperwork tho! I really hope this clears up any misunderstanding.
