Ebay offers almost no protection for small sellers offering either new or used merchandise.  Case in point I sold a PC Motherboard I had bought brand new (Intel) from Amazon originally. This board was used flawlessly for over 4 months. When we shipped it to buyer in ORIGINAL Motherboard box (designed for shipping) and even put this box in ANOTHER box with packing to insure no damage. Buyer waited a week and filed a complaint that 'AS IS' USED item we sold him was not as described and dead on arrival. This buyer has a 66.0 % feedback rating, as opposed to our 100 % for over TEN years of buying and selling on EBAY!  Ebay sided with this buyer even though it was 100 % working tested, PLUS by our reputation. After going through an agonizing 45 minutes of the indignity of a 'Robot Operator' I was able to get through to a 'Live' Ebay Rep. The first one didn't speak English very well and I suspect just hung up on me, even though I was calm and explained I needed help with this issue. The 2nd Ebay rep spoke better English but told me 'You don't know the situation'..I spoke to her supervisor which offered no help and basically spoke in script like terms telling me to refund the buyer's money or suffer the wrath of Ebay and threatened me with NEGATIVE feedback! I'm crying at this point.  Buyer said he took it and had it tested but refused to provide proof. AT this point the 'Buyer' has had our Merchandise for this time frame and possibly he has damaged it. Because of Ebay's rules buyers can keep merchandise new or used up to two weeks and then decide to return it if they feel like it. We will likely throw it in the garbage if it is damaged. All because EBAY does not stand by the seller. This isn't fair.

Sellers have to live up to their obligations

AUTHOR: Steven - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, August 21, 2012

If a customer receives a broken product then they should be entitled to an exchange or refund. People come here if they run into a seller that refuses to do either one of them.

Anything can happen

AUTHOR: Sheryl248 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, August 11, 2012

Since near the time ebay started, I have seen both ebay and paypal, plus sellers and buyers do some strange things.

What happened between you and the buyer is beyond my understanding, I would not dare to guess as to what happened - I do know that something strange did happen.

I can prove that paypal or ebay can be dishonest, I had just paid for a fujitsu lifebook S6210 notebook computer, then to receive email, that the seller did something dishonest, as paypal and ebay wrote. I was told I should submit a claim, I should receive a full refund, when and if I did this, therefore I promptly did this. They only gave me $200 of the $320, they told me I would receive. They told me on the phone "just wait we will get it to you, soon" "its just a matter of time" with each time I called, they told me to be patient, then I called again, then they denied they knew anything about it.

Then when I avoided them for years, then tried to enroll again, their system played pranks, as I enrolled again. Then when its fixed, I try to buy something, my debit card I bought went wrong, therefore I avoided buying it, its not possible, yet ebay keeps writing I bought it. This person perhaps sold or never did sell it. Ebay made sure I never buy anything ever again, after I was able to get my debit card to work, when I  bought two or three things - when I ignored the other.

Therefore, what happened, to those of you not clear about this, paypal and ebay put $120 in there pocket as profit, pretending there was a problem, or just plain say they will - then deny they will.

One time someone from paypal or ebay called to tell me "did I authorize more than $2000 taken out of my account" I had no idea about what happened, yet I had to fix the problem, that I did not cause. Where did that money go, they know, yet never tell.

100% Feedback does not mean much.

AUTHOR: richard - (United States of America)

POSTED: Saturday, August 11, 2012

If you have a 100% feedback reputation then you should apply it to your service. I'm a former seller I sold many items that broke in transit or arrived defective when they received it. I never questioned their claims and issued refunds accordingly. No matter what buisness you run you will allways have complaints and have to issue some sort of refunds.
Do you really beleive that if one of your customers received a broken product and you refused to work out a buisness solution that ebay would back you up just because of a 100% feedback score? Sounds very lame to me.

Here are the facts.

Hello, First of all this was an sold 'AS IS' , 'USED'.  My EBAY reputation of 100% for OVER 10 years states the product 'as is stated.  Earning trust from sellers is gained OVER MANY YEARS. In a recent note from EBAY the guy that bought the board told us the shipping box wasn't damaged...this is NO SURPRISE to me since I worked for United Parcel Service helping ship packages for almost 10 years!  So I am 100 % certain it was not damaged in any way shipping it. Ebay is gouging the sellers who made their very fortunes for small time profit, it is GREED, not need. I urge all people not to buy or sell from EBAY. They are a people unfriendly company who only care about taking YOUR MONEY period.

Proof

AUTHOR: Ashley - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, August 10, 2012

Can you offer proof to ebay that the motherboard was in functioning condition before you shipped it?

Also, how do you know it wasn't damaged during shipping? The buyer could be telling the truth, you are just assuming he is lying to you and that he broke it.

Was it shipped according to UPS or FedEx's guidelines for shipping? Often the original boxes are not adequate for shipping.

This is why ebay tends to side with the consumer. If you aren't happy with ebay's policies, you should probably not use them in the future.
