I joined Eharmony on 6/5/08 and well not overly impressed with the service for the amount of money. Met scammers of all kinds on their site. I can get spammed by these people for free why should I have to pay to talk to them?

Any way that really isn't my issue. Here is my issue: on their site, on the page to sign up for automatic renewal it mentioned in bold print to not let communication lapse with your matches and to sign up for automatic renewal. This implies that if you don't sign up for automatic renewal that they won't automatically renew and you won't be a paid member any longer. I did not sign up for automatic renewal as I was trying it out before deciding. Again not be impressed with the service and having met a wonderful person already and not looking to date anyone else, I did not choose to renew.

Without any prior notification to tell me to cancel or be automatically renewed (which I believe is illegal and am checking on that) they renewed me for another 3 months yesterday. Upon calling them they told me that automatic renewal wasn't some choice and even if I didn't opt for it they do it anyway unless I cancel. I cancelled yesterday, the very first day and still they are refusing to refund any of my 89.85. Also, on Thursday the day before automatically renewing me their site is down for maintenance, taking away any final chance I had to cancel before they renewed me. This should provide me with an extra day to cancel.

I have filed a complaint with the BBB, which over 1,111 other people have as well and yet Eharmony as an A rating with the BBB, what's up with that? Of course Eharmony is a paid member of the BBB and that might be just what is up with that.

However I am hopeful that the BBB will help me to resolve this. I am not stopping there though, I will dispute it on my credit card, I have already filed an unauthorised pay pal charge with pay pal and they are now investigating. I also plan to continue to check on the laws on automatic renewal and whether it is legal to do so without a written contract (signed) and without notifying the consumer that you are about to renew them unless they cancel (Eharmony sent no such notification to me before hand). If I find any at all law broken I will file with the Attorney General of their state and mine.

Eharmony.com Auto Renewal without notification!

AUTHOR: Isisrose - (U.S.A.)

Filed a complaint regarding the practice of auto renewing without first sending a notification with the FTC. Maybe if enough people complain about such practices the FTC will make laws regarding auto renewal.
