This "company" has ripped off TOO many people, as shown by the NUMEROUS entries on Design Savers/Family Security. I feel that I have been cheated and lied to and also financially burdened by their lies.

When I lost my health insurance, due to graduation from college, I thought 'I HAVE to have some insurance, so why not this one? It sounds great!' That should have tipped me off right away - TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.

So, I used my "insurance" to go to the OBGYN and paid my downpayment of $30 - 'Wow this is great! It is good insurance," i thought. Well a month later here comes a dr. bill for $99 (mind you this is on TOP of the $30). So I send in a claim that said "routine papsmear. Yearly" or something like that and so, someone called me and said I havent provided enough information. I NEVER was reinmursed for the $99 and was out $130. PLUS the $139.50 payments a MONTH.

Also, when at the eye doctor, I had to pay full price ("We've never heard of this") and when picking up my glasses (which was LISTED under their acceptors of insurance), I still paid $200 with $5 off. BIG WHOOP. Apparently, they give a COURTESY of $5 off for that "insurance." So now I was out the dr. bill, which was over $150 + the $200 glasses. So, there went another $350. PLUS the monthly payments, mind you.

THEN, on Memorial Day (in September) of last year I had an allergic reaction to food and was very dehydrated and had to go to the ER (since there were no hospitals open that "have ever heard of that insurance"). So I ended up going in and a month later a bill came from the hospital for $1600. Plus $299+ for the Dr's bill, which I paid. Well, I was shocked to see such a bill and also that they were saying that this INSURANCE was not responding to their claim. "We now look to you for the payment," it said.

I waited and waited and waited. Well after a few months, I started getting letters from the hospital saying " we will call a collection agency on you." So I called Design Savers and they said, "oh that hasn't been filed yet. Don't worry they CAN'T possibly call a collection agency on you since we're still working on it." I did not care for some of their phone service representatives. This one was especially unhelpful and rude to me, despite my rightful grievances against the company.

Well, after MONTHS and MONTHS of back and forth, of calling Design Savers to check on the status "oh it says it's in progress," and the hospital pushing back the due date - a collection agency called me in APRIL (6 months AFTER my visit and claim). I explained my dilemma and decided to just pay the hospital the $1600 in $100/month installments (I started this month). I refuse to get bad credit because of the unprofessionalism of an insurance company. Now, apparently, I have to have this billed paid off SOON, so I am going to have to increase my payments, which i can barely afford as it is.

Then after all of that mess, I emailed to cancel the service (when you call, it says to cancel you can email or fax) and so I emailed. Well, for 2-3 months later I was still being billed for $139.50 each month. So I emailed again saying "PLEASE TAKE CARE OF THIS MATTER," which of course they did not. FINALLY, at my wit's end and the end of my rope, I called and told them of my dilemma and someone did for me over the phone, even though they are not supposed to, I believe. This person was from the new company name, family Security Council, she was a lot nicer than the man from Design Savers, I must say.

Now, for someone who doesnt make much money, All of those costs are a BIG financial burden that I will continue to pay for MONTHS AND MONTHS. I even had to cancel my vacation because there was no way I could pay that $1600 AND go away on vacation, thanks to Design Savers/Family Security.

All of this happened because I got roped in by this HORRIBLE business that should lose its license, if you ask me.

I dont know if there is much that anyone can do, but I just feel that it is RIDICULOUS that a business can get away with this and not be punished.

I hope that this helps others to stay AWAY from Design Savers Plan and Family Security Council.
