I have been unable to end a contract with Monitronics on a system that has not worked for over a year. The only offer of assistance from Monitronics was to send a repair person 250 miles and charge me $60 per hour. I have paid for this service and it did not work last time. All I need is a battery replacement. I asked a friend to help me fight Monitronics and she is the one writing this complaint.

We filed the following complaint with the BBB of Dallas, Texas against Fortress Security of Arlington, Texas on May 6, 2006. These are the answers to the questions on the BBB site:

#1: Describe the Complaint:
I have been trying to cancel a contract with Monitronics, International which offers security monitoring services. I have found over 75 complaints filed against Monitronics on the web and at least two separate web pages that show Fortress Security could be just ANOTHER NAME used for Monitronics. The first one is the BBB report page, Fortress Security's web site is listed as www.monitronics.com. AND on MSN Careers (http://jobs.msn.careerbuilder.com) indicates that Fortress Security is hiring a Technician but Monitronics comes up as the actual employer. Since I anticipate a LONG and UNFAIR battle with Monitronics over canceling my contract I must complain about Fortress Security being a member of your Better Business Bureau.

Thank you for letting me ask about this.

Monitronics contract involves Renee's home located at: 1245 West 750 North, St. George, Utah 84770

#2: Please describe the settlement you are seeking from the business:
Written agreement that the contact with Renee, 1245 West 750 North, St. George, Utah 84770 is canceled and that Renee has paid in full. The monitoring has not worked for over a year and Renee hired a different monitoring company about a month ago. Renee paid the monthly premiums for MANY MONTHS (more than twelve) when the system did not even work. NO REFUND IS EXPECTED. Just a letter of cancelation back dated or showing paid in full.
