I had a call from an american Norella Piliggi at Fulfillment International Corporation saying I'd also been one of 83 people picked for a dream cruise. She provide me with her employee number as well as name etc. As I enter a lot of competitions, it didn't seem as all wierd and the holiday details sounded great until she started telling me about promotion fees which I'd need to pay to get the $4083 per person holiday. As well as promotional fees, there'd also be port and departure tax.

Thankfully I decided there was no way I was handing over any credit card details to secure my holiday, and told her I would rather lose the holiday. She didn't sound very impressed, and when I told her I wouldn't hand over card details until I had written proof of who she was and what I'd won, she started reading out legal rules about how to secure holidays in this country, there was an obligation to provide details, and that the point of a credit card was to insure against any fraudulent happenings (obviously if I'd given permission I wouldn't be covered!).

Am very pleased to have ignored it, as I've now read the above - let's hope noone else gets called and reeled in to handing over money where there's no proof. Noone should have to pay for anything they've supposedly won!

You were NEVER told you "won!"

Dear Emma, In reference to your statement, written proof of what I'd won, this would be a pretty silly phrase with which to begin our conversation, when, in fact, all consumers are told the package price and asked to pay the fees during that one telephone call. You know that to be true in that you are someone we talked with. Consumers are told that they have qualified for a highly discounted holiday - which they have. We make our telephone calls to people who have financially qualified to make a purchase in our price range. We get that information directly from the consumer who responds to our initial e-mail offer. Only when they return the e-mail questionnaire do we make any telephone calls.

We assume that when people go to the effort of filling out our form and returning it to us requesting additional information, as you had done, that they are serious about wanting a holiday to the US and that they can afford to take a vacation. Of course there is a charge. It's discounted, but there is a fee. Wed be out of business very quickly if all we did was call around the world to give away free holidays. It's a great concept but not very practical. You filled out an online request form asking to be contacted with details regarding a discounted travel package.

We called you, you declined our offer and the telephone call ended. Were sorry you are missing out on a fantastic travel package.
