My Cadillac CTS built Jan 03 was sold to me new by Champion Cadillac of La Quinta CA, in June 03. This car was one of 51000 that were recalled in Mar 03 as the intermediate steering shaft bolt was not tightened to specifications and could cause the car to lose control without warning per a NHTSA report.

I was not notified by Champion at point of sale and was put into the car 3 months after the recall without proper adjustment of the steering shaft in June 03.

In July 03 my car we serviced at 3000 miles by Coulter Cadillac in Phoenix and still was not told about the recall. At 3600 miles later my car lost control at low speed and I hit a curb.

Returning the car to Coulter in Phoenix in July 03, explaining what happened, they drove the car for 50 miles and used tank of gas to determine that I damaged a wheel bearing and hub, but made no mention of the recall, charging me $900. for repairs. If I had known about the recall I would not have paid.

One year later at 13000 miles on 9/7/04 the car lost control again at low speed in the same manner, at which point I suspected mechanical difficulty. The car had been completely serviced last month at 12600 miles including alignment. Car was steering erratically and seeing alignment done assumed this was fixed.

This new 9/7/04 accident was in my own driveway, where the car lost control at low speed without warning. Without moving the steering wheel the car moved in a different direction.

Checking the web I then found out about a recall a year earlier. If I had known about this recall I would have had this car to service for steering issues, but I simply assumed that I was having trouble getting used to the wide wheel base as I previously drove a new VW Beetle.

I called General Motors who told me that the recall campaign was performed on my car at my 3000 mile oil change. I secured my service records and found that the default was corrected after my accident at 3600 miles, but was charged for the damage to my vehicle. No correction was made at my 3000 mile servicing at Coulter Cadillac in Phoenix an no mention of the recall.

I now have $8000 in damage and feel this is mechanical difficulty as the incident is exactly as happened a year earlier. GM says too bad on the first accident because they did not inspect the car after I returned it damaged and can now only address the second incident.

I feel they are be liable for both incidents and was taken for a ride by the dealers who both hid this recall from me and almost sent me to my death.

As GM is claiming no liability for the first incident which is clearly their fault, I assume they will rip me off again. I hold all 3 parties responsible, each have been faxed this report and and am awaiting a reply.

#5 Consumer Suggestion

Get rid of that gas hog car.

AUTHOR: Ken - (USA)

POSTED: Monday, June 27, 2011

If, as you say, the dealer test drove the car 50 miles and used 1/2 a tank of gas, you have more problems than you know.

If the tank holds 18 gallons and they used 9 going 50 miles, your mpg is only about 5-1/2 mpg.

Another question, how did you manage to do $8,000 damage in your driveway?

He said he needs my signature for his headquarters to do an inspection. I suggested that he speak with his boss.

Coulter responds amicably, GM still out to bat

AUTHOR: Michael - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, September 13, 2004

Although Tony was not happy seeing his name on the web he said he will do what needs to be done with my car. He said he looked at it himself, today 9/13 and saw no problem, and was insistant that I get in to complete a work order immediately.
He said his son drives the same car.

I called GM's legal department, Michael Dow, after finding GM memos on web dated late March 03 instructing dealers that cars are not to be released from showroom without campaign being complete. Additionaly, service staff notifed that cars in for routine service should be checked for campaign before releasing to customer in same GM memo dated Mar 03. Memo explaind dealers responsabilities and consumers rights. Michael Dows spokeswoman said that I can expect to go to litigation.

After seeing consumer rights in GM memo I contacted NHTSA in Washington who said they will conduct investigation. They questioned reason for being charged repair fees after first incident and not being told about the recall.

#1 Consumer Comment

Call up Scott at 3TV Phoenix and ask why they would not inform consumers about why some new car buyers might not EVER GET any safety recall notices.

AUTHOR: Stick - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, September 10, 2004

Michael My name is Stick. I have worked as a car salesman and now I am a car buyers advocate here at ripoffreport.com I reveal what no car dealer wants the car buyer to know.

In Arizona it is legal for one of two involved in a phone call to secretly recorded the phone conversation. You might have a ton of fun listing to some tapes that I secretly made of me Rich Skidmore from 3 TV. Tapes are about CSI Diversion. Skidmore said that 3 TV had big balls and that they would air the story. He said that they were going to "Sand bag" the story until the sweeps, then they would air the story.

I feel that 3 TV did not want to air the story because their biggest advertiser was also doing this CSI diversion. After I brought this story to Skidmore, he found a guy that told him of a BIG dealer in Tempe AZ that was doing it. This dealer was the biggest advertiser on 3 TV's web site.

I brought an ex-coworker with me to 3 TV and she told why she got fired from a local Nissan dealer because she was not diverting enough CSI.

The problem with CSI diversion is what if a car manufacture finds that they have a defective breaking component or some other big problem with one of their cars like steering shaft troubles and want to contact the car owner. Makes it harder if the car dealer and their employees are sending FALSE contact info on the RDR cards. There is a big reason why they do this CSI diversion.

I feel that all new car buyers should make sure that their car manufactures have their correct mailing address and all correct home, work and cell phone numbers. Many new car dealers do NOT want their unhappy customers to have any contact with the car makers. Sure seems to me that the dirty car dealers want to make sure that the unhappy new car buyers do not get a chance to tell how the dealers are treating the new car buyers.

Think of me as "The Insider" of the auto industry that is willing to tell all. Soon, and VERY soon I will be telling what the credit industry does not want the public to know.

Call up Scott at 3TV and ask why they would not inform consumers about why some new car buyers might not EVER GET any safety recall notices.
