I purchased a set of tires the first of November and was to receive an $80. rebate from Goodyear. $40. for the tires, and $40. for opening a Goodyear Account and charging them - which I did. The store manager gave me 4 pages of documentation to send in. I sent all the paperwork in to the rebate address the SAME DAY !
In early December I called the rebate hotline and asked about my status. I was told "it was not in the system yet" and to call back in a "few weeks".

I called them again on 12/17 and was told the same garbage. The representative said "they probably never got it" and to be certain I should fax all the materials to her AGAIN. The reps name was Danielle. I faxed all the documents to her and she acknowledged receiving them. These papers plainly show the date of purchase as early November. I asked her to expedite the matter and she said she would put it in the system that day, and was sorry for the delay.

Today I called again and I am now told it will probably be ANOTHER 6-8 weeks before I can possibly expect my refund/rebate. She also told me it would be for $40. I then became very Irate because she acknowledged the system was incorrect and it should have read $80. She claimed a second entry would have to be made and the extra $40 would come in ANOTHER 6-8 weeks after that!
I feel like this is consumer fraud on the part of Goodyear and its owners Citi Bank. I tried to speak to Goodyear customer service and basically got the brush off.

I intend to contact the Attorney Generals Office as well as consumer reporters in the Dallas area TV stations so the news can get out. I also plan to notify the Federal Trade Commission.
All the lies I have been told are just ways to hang onto their money until they are forced to pay off the customers.

As for me and my family we will NEVER purchase from Goodyear again - this was just a scam to get my business.

I have dealt with rebates many times before with other major companies and NO ONE has ever taken their time or tried to scam me before now.

Good Year Rebate Ripoff

AUTHOR: Joe S. - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, December 08, 2009

I had the same experience with Good Year Rebates.   I purchased a set of tires that had a $40 rebate back in July of 2009.   I immediately read the fine print and filled out the form and mailed it in.   It is December 2009 and I never received the rebate.   I agree with you, I think this is a big scam.

This is probably the last time I buy Goodyear tires.   I may file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

GoodYear Tire Rebate Scam

AUTHOR: Deary - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, September 10, 2009

I also called Goodyear today (9/10/09) to inquire about my rebate... I also spoke with Danielle.. she also told me they did not receive my rebate. Danielle did give me a fax number to fax the rebate again, but of course I now have to find the paperwork again.

My guess is is that they count on this.  Folks mail rebates, they say they never received it and they count on people not sending it in a second time. I WILL find the rebate paperwork and I WILL be faxing or mailing it again... on a daily basis.. until the rebate is received.

The shame of the whole rebate system is that 95% of the time they are rip-offs.  I am not sure why Goodyear would continue to offer rebates and defile their name with fradulent rebate schemes???

Disappointed,

Dana

Just to let you know all rebates are done through the manufacturer, not Citi Bank. Honestly, those of us who work for the company complain amongst ourselves because a lot of the companies we cater to have a hard time getting things straight with these rebates. Goodyear isn't the only company, and you're not the only customer with this problem. If those of us in the credit center could correct that for you we would, but unfortunately it's paperwork sent to the manufacturer. From what a lot of different customers have told me over time, you have to be very persistant and very patient when it comes to the rebates. Hopefully they will get yours straight soon. Sorry I can't be more helpful.

My Experience

After getting screwed too many times on rebates, I REFUSE to buy ANYTHING that has a rebate offer. I tell the salesperson if they want me to buy it, they have to lower the price by the rebate amount right then and there otherwise no deal. A number of companies have done just that with their "instant rebate" offers. If they want to sell me an item, let THEM jump through the hoops of sending the rebate paperwork to the MFG and putting up with the BS. It's all a load of crap anyway. Only 2 to 3 percent of rebates are collected on any given item. The companies make it such a pain in the butt, that most people just give up. I refuse to play their game from the git go. As long as you play their game, they'll pull crap like this.
