Hope Outreach Training Center, Art Beasley, Michael Adams Scam, Fraud, Ripped Off-Doesn't Pay Kansas City Missouri

I was contacted to come in for an orientaiton and filled out lots of paperwork.  I hired and started training as an Apprentice painter, in June 2012 and told we were to be paid minimum wage at $7.25 an hour while in training.  I worked 1-day for 7.5 hours and was reported back the following Monday and sent home and told I would be contacted.  They never did contact me and I  have not, as of today, been paid for the 1-day.  

While in orientation, Art Beasley said they always start the meetings with a prayer and it seemed as if he prayed for about 15-minutes.  At that time, there was a blank wall.  When I returned, there was a picture of a Bible painted on it.  Art acts as if he is so religious, but can't pay a person, the $54.37 owed for that days work. 

I was told to report to the office at 8:00AM, then Beasley drove me, as we went to pick up another worker, then  we went to a house and did interior and exterior painting. I had no-tools as I was instructed not to bring. From the worker, he only had 1-paintbrush, 1-roller, 1-pan and 3-gallons of paint to do interior and exterior painting.  The worker later realized that he had used a gal. of exterior paint, inside and used 1-gal of the interior and exterior paint, for the outside.  This was to be a professional painter used to train me.  This just goes to show, how inexperience the crew is that was used.

When Beasley dropped us off at approx. 8:30AM, he said there was running water from with-in and how he would return in about 2-hours and never did. There was not any running water, not even to cleanup during and afterwards and sent his assistant to pick us up at 3:30PM.  I gave my time sheet to Michael Adams

I contacted a mediator about my pay and Beasley responded, saying I volunteered for work.  I contacted the Dept. of Laborer, Wage and Hour Division, who then advised me to send him a certified letter, pursuant to MO Chap.29 Sec. 290.110, giving him 7-days to respond.  This law clearly says, that emloyers are required to pay a discharged employee all wages due at the time of dismissal and how the employer has 7-days to respond to the written request or be liable for additional wages to the employee until he or she is finally paid for upto 60-days.  Beasley ignored the letter and failed to respond, so therefore he now owes not $54.37, but $3,262.20 for payment due discharged employee, exceptions and penalty for delay, cost, fees, and interest. 

I then sent an "Intent to Sue" letter, that was ignored.  I then contacted IRS and they sent a letter to him and I, giving him, 10-days to respond and that letter was ignored. He has not filed my income with the IRS.  We now have a case pending.

I have ran into 4-others, that have said they have went through the training as I and have issues of not being paid timely or at all.  One said he confronted Beasley about his pay, and how he went into his shoe where he keeps his money to pay some of what was due.

The worker, I worked with, said he too, has not been paid for the day we worked together and at other times.  I'm told many have quit the training, because of the lack of payment. Beasley is taking advantage of the youths and those within the community, when they do not know their rights.  There needs to be a class action lawsuit in regards to.

Spread the word and don't let them get away with this as they are trying to also reach out to the youth and the Churches in the community. Hope Outreach Training Center is not a registered Apprenticeship program with the MO Sec. of State
