Instant Checkmate advertises themselves as a service that will do background checks for a trial membership of 5 days and $1. I did it as a laugh and entered my husbands info. It was so inaccurate it was funny.

Now, 3 weeks later I see a charge for just shy of $40 on my credit card. Didn't even recognize the company name. Had to go to their website to see who it was. Looked all over for a link to cancel my account. All they have is a phone number. Called during business hours and held for 28 minutes.....NO ONE ANSWERED. At the same time, on another phone, I was contacting my CC co. Man said it was the 2nd call today that he took about the same company fraudulently charging the credit card. Charge was still pending, but as soon as they try to collect on it the credit card company will file the dispute. Also took a photograph of my cell phone screen showing a live call with today's date to their customer service number and the length of time of the call.

Found a possible email address for them and sent an email demanding a stop payment and a credit.

INSTANT CHECKMATE NEEDS TO BE STOPPED AND CHARGES FILED AGAINST THEM!!

Anonymous = Company Spokesperson

AUTHOR: codecharmer - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, July 11, 2015

So ANONYMOUS wants to tell us the company with inacurate information, that says they are selling you a report, but once you get there everything non Google-able is an ADD ON feature for MORE money --  ANONYMOUS wants to explain their POLICY and how they are in the right, and you agreed to their terms and then wants to explain how things work.

ANONYMOUS didn't read the rules of the RipOff Report that if they are representing the company - they MUST disclose this.

I base my OPINION here on the fact that ANYONE who has used this company has found NO VALUE in it, and ALL THE POSITIVE TESTIMONIALS about this company ONLY APPEAR on ADVERTISEMENTS FOR THE COMPANY.  Because this company is trying to HIDE RIP OFF and SCAM REPORTS like this site, they have reverted to using enabler sites like VIEWMIX.COM and CONSUMERAFFAIRS.COM to post LOOK ALIKE NEWS SITES which look like a legitimate news story - accept at the very top of the webpage in tiny print it says "ADVERTISEMENT" but the rest of the page looks legit.  A Great Story about a company the does great background checks on people and amazingly all the posts are POSITIVE, and all the banner ads on the page point to said InstantCheckMate.com - the great featured company.

IT IS ALL A SCAM PEOPLE!

Call it what ever you wish

AUTHOR: Jim - ()

POSTED: Monday, January 27, 2014

There is a lot of splitting hairs here over the meaning of words.

No matter what you call it, what this company does is rip people off. Simply look around the web and you will find the vast majority of comments about this company is that they were ripped off.

They took my money and gave me no value. I was suckered into their premium account hoping for more but the premium account gave me the same useless information as the basic account. I had to pay almost double for the same information.

maybe not fraudulent but...

AUTHOR: Bonaventura - ()

POSTED: Sunday, July 28, 2013

The company rep above claims the site is not fradulent.  I suppose it is not. If you read closely enough you will notice that it says that you have to cancel by phone.  However,  if they are not intentionally attempting to trick you into accidentally paying a month or more,  why is there no account management page?  Or,  a way to cancel you account online,  the same way you created the account?  If security is an issue,  you are at greater risk when you create the account and use your credit card number,  not if you were to click a "cancel account" button on a web page.  The company is obviously hoping that people will not go to the trouble of calling them,  or hoping that customers misread company account policy in a common sense way,  rather than in the narrow way the language can be read.  It may not be fraudulent,  but it is certainly an attempt to seperate you from your money with sleight-of-hand.

Checkmate refund

AUTHOR: Thomas - (USA)

POSTED: Friday, February 22, 2013

I noticed a charfe of $22.83 on my bank account statement   I traced it back to Checkmate.

If memory serves it was supposed to a one month free trial period,  When the month was up they  applied the charge without warning me.

I called Checkmate to inform them that I didn't want to continue with the service.  The agent canceled the "account" , then checked with his supervisor and refunded the money. ( The must be receiving a lot of complaints)

Moral:  Don't subscribe this type of company if it has a recurring monthly charge.  Use a month by month basis.   I've been watching my statements and canceling subscriptions with recurring monthly charges.  -That add's up!!

JUST CALLED INSTANT CHECKMATE - POSITIVE RESULTS!

AUTHOR: sassyNsober2 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, February 10, 2013
I recently tried the trial as well. They debited the $1.00 & I noted on my calendar to cancel trial today, one day before the actual end date to avoid "charges" to my bank account.
I, too, COULD NOT FIND a cancel trial prompt - so, since I noticed they were within the PST hours and NOT the normal EST - I called the same number as the one listed in the previous report. Within 5 minutes, maximum...I asked if I could cancel online or if I "had" to utilize the phone number to do so. The customer Service Rep said, "Yes, you have to call to cancel."
I was able to cancel in a timely manner, avoid the charges and all in a very pleasant phone call that was handled professionally as well as prompt.
I was also given a final date to use this website that they didn't have to do; per the agreement!!
What a happy surprise and I only replied here because I received the opposite service and thought you should know. It is money and that is important in today's world. (Notice my frugal self could pay a dollar but I can't afford their monthly fee for a non-business matter in the first place.)
Thank you.

the term fraudulent is not the correct term to be used

AUTHOR: anonymous - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, February 23, 2012

the bank teller that had informed you that the charges you received were fraudulent is incorrect, it is clearly stated in the terms and conditions that all memberships are recurring including the 5 day trial for a dollar. it explains that if you do not contact the company via the toll free number provided to cancel it will assume you are happy with the service and place you on a monthly membership until the call takes place from you to cancel. If there is a billing problem from my experience the agents had always been there to help out the situation and if a refund was due it was processed. also below is a link to their terms and conditions which clearly states their billing methods. you should take a look at those terms and conditions before signing up for anything online they usually all work the same way

instant checkmate clearly states several times on their webpage that the following site is used for public records investigating. the key word is public record which does not pertain just to criminal records. this does however provide public housing, marriage, death, contact information, open public unsealed criminal records as well. it also does state in the disclaimer that in some cases record will not appear up to date. depending on the state, that particular state might be back logged up to 5 years on those public criminal reports so certain reports might not be available to date. If you have any type of public record, your name will appear on this site. this does not mean you have a criminal record it just states you have open public records pertaining to the specific name searched. every account does have a criminal record section, if you do not have a record it will state no criminal records found in that section. It is very important to read the disclaimers and the terms and conditions as well what the site provides before you criticize a company online for other potential customers to read about. I have had this service for a total of 4 months and i have had nothing but good experiences with the staff and company, but of course i took the time to read about the site before i just put in my information or a pointless complaint.
