I am so infuriated with Instant Tax Services in Augusta,Ga. I was charged more than $500 to file my taxes with them! And they don't tell their fees until after they have filed your taxes. why aren't they shut down already!

They did me the same way

I went and got a simple loan and requested I recieve my taxes back within 10-14 days. Yes I needed money so I did it. But that still does not justify these fees, their product misrepresentation, and their lying employees. I bet you had they told me the fees upfront I would have waited and did my own taxes as I've been doing them my self, online, FOR FREE for the past 3 years! I prefer TaxAct! Ive reported this place to every agency possible. I garauntee they wont be in business for much longer. If I have to boycott them my self when they open their doors again next tax season!

The reason they haven't been shut down yet is because there are too many desperate people trying to get their refunds "faster" (which doesn't happen).  Most of the people who have posted on ROR have talked about how badly they needed their refunds. So my advice is as follows:

First, tell everyone you know that these places are a rip off. Second, tell everyone to go to the IRS website (www.irs.gov) and take advantage of the FREE tax prep and filing that is available to people in lower income brackets. Filing your taxes is NOT as difficult as it used to be, thanks to the software that guides you through it.  If you don't have a computer go to the library. Anyone who can read and follow simple directions is quite capable of filing their own taxes.  If you have a bank account, you can get your refund deposited directly within a week or two.  You pay NO fees, NO interest on the "loan" of your own money, and you save yourself a lot of aggravation.

There are also social service agencies that will usually provide help for those who need it. PLEASE spread the word through everyone you know (and everyone they know) and maybe these places will go out of business.
