 HOMEOWNERS BEWARE!  PLEASE READ MY ARTICLE, YOU CAN'T AFFORD NOT TO!

I was referred to a plumber employed by Drain Rite Plumbing in Norco after a kitchen clog flood.  It appeared the water damaged my kitchen floor & one partial wall/baseboard in room next to it.  The plumber explained that he could repair the clog and his company also does water restoration & could repair the drywall, baseboard, & do needed repairs.  I was in a vulnerable state receiving the news that this little flood had created a good amount of needed repair and my drywall, baseboard, carpet & flooring was going to have to come up and be cut away.  My house is emaculate so this was very disturbing news!  I was told if I signed the contract right there he would waive the plumbing repair charge and Drain Rite would take care of all repairs needed.  I would be obligated to use their sub-contractors but the repairs appeared to be minor so I signed and trusted the work would be done professionally and properly ...my mistake!

 I was told I would only have to pay for my homeowners deductible and that the rest of the repairs would be done "under the scope of the insurance company."  The plumbing was awesome but, every contractor used after that was not professional and did poor work.  I questioned that each one had their license, etc. and was told they did.  At that point my small repairs became huge as they found asbestos, my flooring couldn't be matched so all of it had to be replaced throughout the whole house! ALl of my baseboards had to be taken off and I had to pack everything in my house to go out!   I contacted my insurance company and they responded quickly measuring & walking me through what was needed.  We had to go to a hotel, put my whole house in storage, etc. for a full month. 

In the meantime, the workmanship & repairs were not completed and was poorly done.  I complained to Drain Rite's office personnel that the sub-contractor didn't show, came late, didn't leave extra flooring that was ordered, etc. I requested SEVERAL times that John come see the work that was being done but he refused.  Weeks ofpoor, lousey repairs and he  never came out once to look at the work being done.  I never saw invoices from Drain Rite until the end when John stated I owed him $5,000!  My insurance company was paying for work that was not done after John sending his sub-contractor out 3 times to do it and it still wasn't done.  The sub-contractor, Tony, took 9-NINE days to lay 1200 sq ft (one story simple floor plan) of laminate (under layment already on each piece) of flooring, lied about work completed, came late or didn't show, took all left over flooring, didn't replace baseboards correctly, didn't repaint them but stood right there and said he did as I looked and saw they were not!  Yet, my insurance company paid for them to be painted, etc. My floors creak, have low places that sink in, etc.   He was very incompetent!

**John is an unprofessional, arrogant, rude man.  After several threatening phone calls and demands for money I just kept saying, "Come out, see what I'm talking about.  You should look at the work being done by the sub-contractors you send out.  Please come out to look at it.  Why won't you come out?"  He said, and I quote, "That won't solve anything.  Pay me my money!  I will ruin your credit, make your life miserable and take you to court!  I do it every day!  When will you be home to accept court papers?  When?  Today?  When?  Tomorrow?  When?"  I asked if he would come in person to give me the paper and look at the work but he wouldn't answer.  Sure enough, the next day his "helper" served me with papers taking me to Small Claims Court**!

As a homeowner of over 35 years I have NEVER dealt with a man or a company like this!  Work was not completed, took way to long to get done, inexperienced sub-contractors, INFLATED invoices that finally appeared after 3 months of trying to get these repairs completed, etc.  It has been a nightmare I wouldn't wish on anyone! 

Now I am spending hours filing a complaint with the Contractors State License Board, Angie's List, BBB, Ripoff Report, and preparing to go to court in July for the first time in my life!  HOMEOWNERS BEWARE!  DO NOT USE THIS MAN'S COMPANY - STAY AWAY FROM JOHN OPITZ OF DRAIN RITE PLUMBING IN NORCO!
