during the summer new rules were made enabling another student to achieve his black belt within 10 months of his contract. Now that student has his black belt and will not have to sign additional contracts to reach his blackbelt.    When my son was working torward his camoflage belt he had achieved two stripes until the instructor left and a new instructor came in he was not credited for his third stripe. The new instructor would not acknowledge  his stripes so he made him start all over agian on the same belt.He made him lose those stripes.    They have had eight instructors at that school (beache) in less than a year some of which were not certified to teach.  mostly high school instructors.  one instructor pulls certain kids to the side to teach individusld instructions  in my opinion personal instructions  should be private lessons. I had to take my child out of town for one month. upon my return i learned that an individual went from an orange belt to a blue belt in one months time . as per contract belt graduation requires 90 days of instruction. my son was only able to recieve four belts in in a year so i was made sign a 2 yr contract in order for my son to achieve his bleack belt.  now they changed the rules evey 25 classes you can achieve a belt.... my son went everyday for the first year to three or more classes. All of these discepencenies has totally discouraged my son from wanting to continue. It looks like to me having such a turnover with that many instuctors ( not showing these children stability) and changing rules in the contract i signed would release me from the contract. I will also let eveyone know what a decieving lier and ripoff ATA is. It is a money making gimmick all for them it is not about the children. They don't bother to tell you  you have to buy hundreds of dollars of equipment neither.......they tell you that after they sucker you in the contract... very deceiving........

make it right

AUTHOR: Karate America Employee - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, October 11, 2011

First, we are saddened that any student is upset.  We would like to explain and to make it right.

This school, unfortunately, has been through a few instructors this year. The first instructor, who had been with Karate America since he was a child, finished his college education and decided to move forward with a career in his field of study.  The second decided he wanted to move back home with his family.  We wish them both luck.  Unfortunately, their leaving has caused Karate America difficulties.  It is disruptive when an instructor change must be made, but we had no say in these
circumstances.

Currently, the school is being overseen by one of our senior instructors, who has been with Karate America for more than ten years.  The instructors and assistants are all either certified through the American Taekwondo Association or on that long, hard road toward certification.  They are highly qualified, some even holding State and World champion titles.

The post mentioned a concern about the instructors pulling kids to the side to give them extra help.  This is a common practice in our schools.  We will not allow a child who is obviously struggling in the class to continue to struggle without extra assistance.  If the instructor feels it is in the students best interest to pull them to the side during the class, and if the class is adequately handled while that instructor steps to
the side, then absolutely the instructor will take extra time with that child.

I spoke to the Master Instructor who is overseeing the school.  He verified that no student has jumped from orange belt to blue belt in a months time.  It is physically impossible to move that quickly through the ranks, even if the student attended all available class times.  Rank progression is based on two factors: class attendance and knowledge/performance of the required material.  It is true that some students progress more quickly than others.  It simply depends upon the students attendance and skill level.

While speaking to the Master Instructor, he mentioned that he has offered private lessons to the student in question in order to help catch up on classes missed during the students summer off.  This offer is still
open.  Please call the school to schedule private lessons or if you have any other questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Karate America Employee
