A woman was arrested today, according to police, on charges of swindling two bodyguards out of thousands of dollars while claiming to be a “high diplomat” living in Palm Beach.

Karina Knauseder, 50, of Key Biscayne is charged with felonies of organized fraud of more than $20,000, grand theft (two counts) and giving a false name to police. She also faces four misdemeanor counts of forgery to obtain prescription drugs. She was being held Friday at the Palm Beach County Jail on a $22,500 bond, according to the county Sheriff’s Office booking blotter.

Palm Beach police said they have been pursuing the case since Feb. 5, when they first received information about Knauseder’s activities. Two out-of-state men working in private security told police that Knauseder didn’t pay them for protection services.

In both cases, the men responded to listings on the website getbodyguardjobs.net advertising private security for a “high diplomat” living on the island at the “Hryzbyl” estate, according to the arrest report.

On Dec. 27, a Kentucky man flew to Florida to meet with “Karin Hryzbyl,” the diplomat Knauseder was claiming to be, the report said. Over the next few weeks he told police he drove the woman to numerous locations in South Florida, including trips to The Breakers and Neiman Marcus.

The man showed police a contract he signed with “Hryzbyl” indicating a $195,000 salary plus benefits to be paid bi-weekly, according to the report. He said he’s owed more than $10,000 in salary and more than $1,200 in purchases for the woman.

During the same time period, a California man also claims to have been working as a bodyguard for “Karin Hryzbyl,” according to the report. He told police the woman owes him more than $20,000 in salary and more than $5,000 in purchases.

Police ran a background check on the name and discovered it was one of several aliases used by Knauseder, the report said.

Officers learned Knauseder “has an extensive criminal history for organized fraud, grand theft, fraud, larceny and battery,” according to the report. They also discovered an active warrant for her arrest from Miami-Dade police on a larceny charge.

This week, according to police, officers met separately with both men for a photo lineup. Both identified Knauseder as the woman identifying herself as “Karin Hryzbyl,” the report said.

One of the men tipped off police that he was scheduled to drive “Hryzbyl” through Palm Beach on Thursday. Surveillance cameras detected the vehicle entering the island around 2:30 a.m. Friday, according to police.

Officers stopped the car and Knauseder was taken to the police station. During a search, they found four prescription bottles under false names. Knauseder was booked into the jail around 6:30 a.m. Friday.
