We own a 2005 Kia Sedona. On about 3/5/09 we noticed it was hard to get it into gear, so we called our local macanic who has done our transmission changes in the past, as we live in rural Iowa and not everyone will do transmissions. He brought his flatbed trailer and hauled it to his house and hooked it up to his computer and said the tranny was going out but he would change the fluid so we could get it to a Kia dealer (we live 60 miles from the dealership where we bought it). I call Kia custamer assistance and they had it towed to d**k Whitham in Waterloo as it was the closet 3/7/09.Get a call from them and and they said it was just the Trans range switch and right axle seal leaking. Okay it cost us 251.00 not too bad and we got our van back.

It wasn't two weeks later and it did the same thing, called Kia they said they could tow it to Des Moines where we bought it. Kia of Des Moines confirmed what we had already told them in Waterloo that the tranny was going out. No problem it is still covered under the 100,00 powertrain warranty. WRONG!!

We had 90514 miles on it when it was in Waterloo now it has 91,something and they won't cover it! They want us to pay 2202.52 for something that should be covered!! In a letter form Kia in Lombard ,IL is says that due to inadeguate maintenace recods that it is being denied. Mr Lockwood is the ultimate authority and that this should be considered KMA final decision! In a phone call to them they stated that becuse our reciptes didn't have the vin # that they couldn't prove that that was the van being serviced!! We live in Iowa and own 10 silver 2005 Kia sedona's!! I have gotten ahold of all the service records for the van and faxed them in as well. We are on our 3rd set of 60,00 mile tires and know the van has been seviced cause for the warranty on the tires we have them rotated and the oil changed every 5-6,ooo miles!!
I will never own a Kia again!! we have been with our primary car for over a month now as it is still sitting in Des moines at Kia service. I refuse to pay for something that should be covered.

I have contacted the BBB and the Iowa Attorney General, which we have a lemon law that states "as to the term of the manufactures written warranty"
I hope other people do not get taken by Kia's deception!!

At 75,778 miles we took it in to Kia of DM they replaced the steering shaft and timing belts and both drive belts at a cost of $908.00. They did a multi point inspection and said everything else looked good on the van.
The warranty manual says you SHOULD retain maitenace records since it MAY be necessary in some instances for you to prove that the required maintance has been done. Which we did. They just don't want to cover it.
No we didn't take it to them to have the RECOMMENDED service done for $600 a pop when someone local would do it for under $100.00.(He is a state Licensed mechanic in Iowa.)

Now, did you follow the required maintenance schedule to the letter? If you did, take them to small claims court. Most states have a limit there of $5000.

If not, you are SOL.

All manufacturers require the customer to maintain their vehicle, AND keep a record of it. They even put a section in the owner's manual for just that purpose. It has boxes for date, mileage, service done, and the name of the person/company who did it. If the customer does the maintenance himself, that is fine too. Just fill out the boxes.

You failed to do it.
