The director of Fred Meyer KinderCare is a horrible director. She is very controlling and manipulative. For example, she likes employees to give her at least five dates and times for an appointment and then she will pick the best one for them-no matter the urgency for the appointment. She bribes parents when there is a problem and she is worried they are going to leave. For example, she has offered free extra curriculuar classes to parents so they will stay or free weeks. Then she doesn't fix the situation and it ends up happening again.

The state of Oregon requiers there be a certain number of students to teacher. For example, in the toddler rooms there is suppose to be four children to one teacher. She is constently letting this ratio go over because they are under staffed. She never offers to jump into a room to fix this problem or to have subs come in. There are many people who have offered to be subs, but she claims they are not needed. (If CSD is reading this-go on a Thursday, that's when they are over the most).

This KinderCare is NAYC accredited, but it got there on false pretenses. She ran around to all the rooms and made sure we were telling the NAYC people the right things. Where ever they were in the center, she was there checking up on what people were saying.
She too allows children to come to school sick and they too charge for days children are out. Plus they charge half to hold a spot for a child going on vacation. However, that money is not put towards a future payment, so parents are paying for their child not to be there in case their spot is filled by a new student-which never happens.

KinderCare employees do their best and then they have to work with someone who won't work with them. Diana needs to be fired and the center needs to go back through NAYC truthfully.

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, February 02, 2009

I am an ex kinder care employee of over 5 yrs but I was reading through the responses to the former fred meyere kindercare director today and I was never more happy to read she finally got fired whooo h*o! she finally got what she deserved. She had no business trying to run a day care or do anything related to children as she was a VERY poor example to children and adults alike and had no clue what she was doing. Her rude and arrogant attitude was ridiculous . I was glad to tell her off after I quit and went back to pick up my last paycheck.

I was wondering why one day when I went to pick up my child during recess, my child was on the wrong side of the fence with the older kids.

Is it because my child was swapped??

This same director mentality existed in the kindcare in CA.

Sweet Justice

As the induviduals that have written this I am sure would love to be educated, Diana Bartolus is no longer employeed with the Knowledge Learning Centers. As all of her employees on some level were very glad to see her go she herself saw no reason for the action. The Fred Meyer Center is no longer a KinderCare and is under new buisness Ideals that are directed to giving the families and children along with the employes the respect and attention they deserve. I for one was jumping for joy when I put the pieces together that she was fired. Of all of the induviduals that I have worked under she deserved this fate the most. She never let her employees take a day off even for a sick days without giving a guilt trip. Even for schedualing a wedding that is in the black out perioid she had the nerve of asking to reschedual it. She was so fake. When interviewing new families, she would give them her utmost attention, while knowing very well that she would never want to deal with their children directly. She would never turn down a new student even when she was put on probation for not having room to enroll. Leading to over enrollment and low staffing. This is what created the most problems, the children would constantly be shuffled around from room to room.

She in General was a very rude, fake and money grubbing induvidual who liked to insult the intelligence of her employees and parents!

GOOD RITENCE

#5 UPDATE EX-employee responds

i agree with this report this person is rude, lazy and disrespectful to employees

AUTHOR: John - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, February 15, 2007

I totally agree with the authors complaints about this "director" not that she even deserves such a title.

I also am an ex Kinder"S"care employee and while under the "direction" of Diana Bartolus I was treated horribly and with disrespect.I was written up twice on the same day once for. her and another person in charge asking me what I was uspet about. .I.E. what i thought was the main problem at the center and what my feelings were and then after I told them my honest feelings I was written up for the things I said. pure b.s!

Kindercare is all about how much money they can make with how few teachers .Classrooms were and IM sure are still , being combined in order to send teachers home so they wouldnt have to pay them. Usually the ages of the children in the rooms were not appropriate and the teacher was left to deal with parents complaints of why thier child was in the wrong room. Parents from one day to the next did not know what room thier child would be in. The children were moved around like furniture.

I was constantly over ratio in my classroom and when I would notify Diana she would tell me there was nothing she could do about it . When she did come in to "help" me one time she stood with her back to all the kids and chatted with the teacher on the other side of the classroom. Later she got on me for my attitude and when I told her I was unhappy she hadnt helped me at all with the 8 children in the room her response was I should have told her I needed help. Well any normal person would realize one person cannot take care of 8 children. However, I told her I couldnt ask her for help or I would be written up.

Basically, I would not reccomend this or any other kindercare to anyone unless they like greedy companies who hire under qualified teachers and directors. Several times I had to tell Diana of the CCD rules about ratios etc . and she would argue with me about them , say she was going to go look it up then come back to tell me I was right.

All in all, kindercare is a joke.

Kindercare in CA rocks!

AUTHOR: Linda - (U.S.A.)

Hello,

I am an ex empolyee of Kindercare in southern CA, the school I worked at was also NAEYC accredited, but different states have different individual accredation processes. California happens to one of the most regulated & controlled childcare states in the nation. When I was completeing my state of CA required practicum for my teaching degree, I worked at Head Start. All my life I had heard that Head Start was so low budget, low staffed, & was basically a last resort if you need childcare. But I had such a positive & intelluctual experience while working there. I hope that situation with Kindercare in your state doesn't sour your opinion of childcare providers.

Not all bad

I have to say that the Kindercare in which I place my son is wonderful. Very clean, very low turnover of employees, and each and every one of them knows us by name. I've had my son in this facility for 4 years, and although it's more expensive than other day care centers, I wouldn't dream of changing. Sorry they're not all like this one.

#2 UPDATE Employee

KinderCare is all for the money!!

AUTHOR: Tarra - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 25, 2006

I am a soon to be ex-employee of KinderCare Learning Center; specifically Center 1042 in Lake Oswego, Oregon. I have worked there since April 2005. Before I was hired I was under the impression that KinderCare was one of the best child care providers in the country, and that I was extremely lucky to have gotten the job. I was sure wrong.

Besides the management, only two employees remain that were there when I was hired. That says a lot right there.

The main reason that I am leaving is the management team. They DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE CHILDREN. They worry about looking good for the state licensing, NAEYC accredidators, and mostly the parents. There are only 3 or 4 parents that know the truth, but to the rest of them the director is wonderful. She treats the staff like poo on the bottom of her shoe. She doesn't even know the names of the kids. She almost gave medication the the wrong child.

We are constantly out of teacher/child ratio. I have had 6 infants by myself before. Children have been left unattended and the staff responsible were not terminated. Proper health and safety standards are not followed by some staff. ( no gloves when diaper changing or serving food.)

Like the Fred Meyer KinderCare mentioned above kids come to school sick all the time. Pink eye has gone through our center multiple times. When the first kid came to school with a red, goopy eye management told us that he had a "cold in his eye" and it was not contagious. 10 more kids got it within the week, and one teacher-myself. Even then those kids were not sent home or allowed to return before the 24 hour incubation period after going to the doctor. The only notice given was that the illness was going around, NOT that children will be turned away with the symptoms like oregon state law requires.

I hope, for the sake of the kids, that not all KinderCare Centers are like this one. These people are paying thousands of dollars yearly and the director doesn't even know their kid's names.

Across the board!

AUTHOR: Eryn - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, July 19, 2005

The Kindercare I worked for was in N. Canton OH and it was the same situation!! I felt I was a very good employee, didn't miss work, always followed dress code, state regulations, volunteered for extra hours and to work in other classrooms. But for some reason, even though I was in school and have some chronic kidney problems which my director was informed about PRIOR to my being hired, I could never seem to get her to understand the urgency of my occasional doctor visits.

Plus, on the one or two days that I had to actually call off in the 2 years I worked there, she actually screamed and yelled at my husband and myself for having to call off. I at the time was working at 630 am, and we were supposed to call in 2 hours prior to our shift. Well, I tried but she didn't appreciate the call at 430 in the morning!
The NAEYC thing is totally true too! We were in the process of being accredited when I started there. All of the employees went to so much extra trouble doing all the extra projects along with the curriculum and the director didn't even acknowledge that fact at all until the NAEYC people came in to evaluate.

Plus the only time she ever did any observation is if State or NAEYC were coming in and even then it was just to come in and pick out all the little stuff we hadn't gotten to yet and scream.

Also, State said there were only allowed 12 kids in our 2 yr old room, and for several months at a time, we combined with the 2 1/2 and 3 yr old room kids and had anywhere from 12 to 19 kids in the room. At naptime. Can you picture the chaos? She tried to justify it by saying that it was only for a few hours at a time but the parents sure didn't get to know about that!! I am sure State would have picked us apart if they had come in on one of those days.
