I was in a car accident the beginning of January 2014 due to the cold winter weather. I had a great Honda and was very upset to see it go, knowing however it was time for a new car. At the time i was 19. I am a full time student putting myself through dental assisting school, while also living in my own apartment. I work very hard as a waitress to make ends meet, with no outside help.

It took me a little over a month to save up for a car but I was able to save 2500 with the money I recieved back from my income taxes. I found a 2000 Honda Accord on cargurus.com that was around the price of 3000 dollars. Thinking I had found a deal, I called up the dealer, which was Kings Auto Group, and made an appointment to go see the car which was about an hour away.

Upon arriving the manager James told me the car was actually 3000 dollars only if you had a trade in and if you did not the car would be 5000 dollars. He also told me that if i wanted the car they would have to see some of my work pay stubs and check my credit, but after I test drove the car and everythng seemed great, I presented them with 2500 dollars in cash, and they were quick to take it without checking my credit or seeing any pay stubs.

I had the car for about two weeks when it began shifting hard. I had the transmission flushed which was very dirty for about 100 dollars. I was told it would need to be flushed again, but then about two weeks later my check engine light came on. I took it to the shop exactly a month after I had bought it, and found out today that to fix the internal problem in the transmission it will be 2500 dollars to rebuild my transmission and fix the problem.

I called the dealer upon finding this out and was told that now it was pretty much my fault because I had not bought the extended warranty on the car, which I would have liked to have bought but at the time I could not afford, due to all my savings going into the down payment of the car. The dealer told me they were not aware of any problems with the car and that the transmission just "went" within the month of me having it, and driving back and forth from school and work. He said he was "very sorry to hear that this happened to me but unfortunately there was nothing they could do."

The very least they could do was have their mechanic fix it for a reduced price. At this point I am struggling to pay for the bills I currently have and I have no more funds available to fix this car. The family mechanic I took it too said although I can drive the car, it will just get worse and eventually be undrivable. Was there really no way the dealer was aware of this transmission problem, or did he just see a young vulnerable girl with cash in her hand and take advantage of the situation he had in front of him? I am at my wits end, I dont know what else to do.

Never purchased the warranty

AUTHOR: Customer is King - ()

POSTED: Saturday, March 29, 2014

Here at Kings Auto we have sold hundreds of auto's with a very impressive rating. From time to time situations will occur that a person have a problem with an auto. We can count on one hand the number of serious negitve responses that we recieved. Because these are used cars and anything can happen, not to mention if a customer do not do the basic maintinence, proper gas, and drive the car responsible. To address the price Makaila must not have read the entire posting because it clearly said $3000 based on an approved $2000 trade in allowance. I then gave her another $500 off!!  Makaila did not have a trade in so the car was sold for $4495. We actually purchased this car for $3700 and paid $100 to have it delivered in which we had it inspected. To pass inspection we paid $300 to get it fixed. So our bottom line we had $4100 into the car and sold it for $4495. I know what your thinking, we sold that car cheap. So we only stood to make $400 profit.

I then ask the customer if they would like to buy a Warranty to protect thier investment for only $173. this is a 3 month warranty. Makaikla said NO. I like i do with all customer ask again and showed the warranty and what it covers and give my personal comments that i do with all guest that it would be wise to protect your investment because it is a 14 year old car. She said NO. Most service stations will tell you its not a good idea to flush the trans cause it could create problems. We we had this car it was in very, very good shape, No problems at all with the trans. We were so confident in this car we even gave her a 30 day warranty. Another correction to her statement: she called us about a week after her warranty expired.....She test drove the car and was very happy with it. She even came in to make a payment and was very happy with it. I dont know what in terms to what cause the trans need repair, however we did our due delingence as we do with all cars to make sure we selling a car that up to our standards. I wish she would have purchased the warranty to protect her investment.

Not much you can do.

You bought a 14 year old used car "as is" without a warranty.   You didn't bother to get it checked out by a mechanic before buying it.  Basically, you gambled that this 14 yr. old vehicle would be servicable.   Sometimes when you gamble, you lose.

You seem to want the seller to cover some of this as though it were under warranty, when in fact they told you it would not have a warranty.    You're expectations are not reasonable.

" Upon arriving the manager James told me the car was actually 3000 dollars only if you had a trade in and if you did not the car would be 5000 dollars."

Here's a tip that may come in handy in the future.   When you go to buy something for an advertised price and the price goes up 66% when you get there, you are being hosed.
