My wife and I were car shopping and decided to stop and take a look at Larry H Miller Honda in Murray. As soon as we pulled in we were greeted by a salesman named Pat. He was very nice and showed us a few cars that we were interested in. After test driving we decided to buy TWO cars and trade in the one we currently had. This was a plan we had in mind before coming. We asked how much they would give us for our trade in because we would only be interested in doing this if we got at least $9000 for the trade in. He went and talked to his sales manager Mike and they said that they would agree to that. We were pretty happy because we knew our car was only worth $7500 and that we would be getting rid of our negative equity.

So we headed inside to start the paperwork. We sat down with Pat and told him we needed to know what kind of interest rate we would be getting because if it was higher than 2.9% then we didn't want to go through with it. He got the interest rate approved at 2.9% with his Mgr Mike and showed us what our monthly payments would be. He said we would have to put a down payment down of $500 for that to work out. We said we don't have the money today but could get it within 30 days and he said that would be just fine and to give them a post dated check. We also asked if some of the rock chips in one of the vehicles could be fixed free of charge and if they could put some gas in it because it was empty and we had an hour drive home. They said that would be no problem! So up to this point everything is going great and we feel like we are getting an awesome deal. We are being treated very well and couldn't wait to get our new cars!

I also want to mention that they had a computer with internet access on it that my wife and I looked at. We wanted to see what the blue book values were on both the vehicles to make sure we weren't getting ripped off. I am not sure what the website was that we looked at but the price range fell right within what we were being quoted at. We also read some reviews and felt very good about our purchase we were about to make.

Okay so now this is where our experience begins to go down hill:

Pat took us back into the financial office of Brandy Kalakis and if I would have known what was about to happen, I would have turned around and left right then and there. We sat down she introduced herself and seemed very nice at first. She explained when purchasing two cars she likes to go over the paperwork on one car and then do the second car after that because it helps things run more smoothly. So she started with the cheaper of the two cars. After listening to her try to sell us GAP insurance for like a half hour and us continually telling her we are not interested she starts putting paper after paper in front of us explaining them very quickly and basically just showing us where to sign. When we asked questions about what certain numbers were she would just say things like "Oh that is just a glitch in the system that prints on the contracts, it doesn't mean anything." or "That automatically prints like that but it doesn't apply to you." and weird things like that.

When we noticed on one of the papers that it had our interest rate at 3.9% we asked her why it said that. She explained that we can't qualify for the 2.9% and that that interest rate is almost impossible to get. She said don't believe what the billboards on the freeways say. We explained we didn't read it on a billboard and that our salesman Pat promised us we would get a 2.9% on both vehicles and that it was approved through Mike the sales mgr. At this point it was about 9:30 pm, we had been there for about 5 hrs already and needed to get home to our babysitter!! She wouldn't budge and said something about how she has been working there for over 9 yrs and that she knows more than us and knows that we won't get approved at that rate. We finally made her call Pat into her office so we could discuss it. He said he must have made a mistake and that he didn't know what happened.

That is when we should have got up and left. I am kicking myself for not doing so!! She punched in some numbers and said that we were still getting a great deal at 3.9% and that over the life of the loan it is only an additional $60 or something. I am a very patient person and I understand that people can make mistakes. I asked her if they could deduct $60 off the price of the car to make up for the money we would have saved at 2.9% She didn't seem happy about wanting to do that but after fighting with her she said she would half it with us and pay $30. Then we found out that the price dif on the other vehicle was going to be about $500! We said she needed to pay half of that too and she said "absolutely not!" We continued to argue with her about how it's only fair and what not and she said this: "I will personally take the loss of $30 out of my pocket but I can't do the $250." We aren't idiots, we know that the money will not come out of her pocket, she was just trying to make us feel bad. Then she proceeded by saying "Look, I was supposed to get off work at 6:00 tonight. I had a birthday party that I missed and honestly I didn't expect to spend the last 3 hrs of my night arguing over $250!"

My wife and I couldn't believe it. She was being incredibly rude and we wanted to just leave. Talk about being completely unprofessional and rude! She said that she would run the papers through and then give us a call on Monday to let us know if she found better interest rates for us and we could go from there. Mike the mgr and Pat also told us to bring the one vehicle back on Monday so they could fix the rock chips. Plus there were a couple of papers they needed from us (proof of residency and what not) that we told them we could bring with us as well. We made an appointment to come back at 7 Pm

So we left and first thing Monday I called my credit union to see what kind of rates they would give me. I told them the make and model of the cars and the price and the first thing she says is that we are paying way too much for the vehicles and that they are ripping us off. I asked her what interest rate they would give us and she says 2.9% So I call Brandy and of course they tell me she is with customers and can't come to the phone. I called Pat and got the same thing. So then I called and asked to speak with Mike. I told him I what was going on and that I wanted to renegotiate the prices and that we were incredibly unhappy. He said he would pull my paperwork up and meet with Pat and Brandy and see what they could do for us. After about 4 hrs and not receiving any phone calls I decided to call Pat again. He finally answered and said that Mike had never talked to him and he had no idea about any meeting or that I was even upset! I couldn't believe it! I then said that I didn't want to drive an hour up there until I knew what they could do for me. He insisted that Mike really wanted us to drive there and meet with them all together so we could discuss the matter. I told them our two little kids would be coming with us because we didn't have a babysitter. They said no problem.

So we headed up there and about 3/4 the way there my little girl threw up!! Just our luck! We cleaned her up and wrapped her in a blanket that we had and when we got to the dealership at 7 pm (the time they told us to come) I had my wife stay in the car with the kids so I could run in and talk with them. I found Pat and he said it would be just a min because Brandy was with some customers. Well just a minute turned into a half an hour. I asked to speak with Mike and Pat tells me that he isn't there and had to leave because of an "emergency" I stormed out to tell my wife the news and she had had it at that point, we both had. She went in and I stayed outside with the kids. After about 15 min I grabbed my daughter wrapped in her blanket and my son and went inside to find my wife crying and  them telling her they are just too busy to deal with us. Brandy started walking up to us at that point and quickly told us that she got us approved at 3.4% We had had so much stress at that point that I just wanted to hand them the stupid papers we had brought for them and the check for our $500 down payment and get the heck out of there.

They told me the amount would now be $545 dollars because there is a $45 dollar fee for holding the check for 30 days. They of course didn't mention this before at all. I told them I am appalled with the way they have treated us and I asked the receptionist for the general mgr number. Brandy just rolled her eyes and smirked to herself then walked away.  I know I should have stayed and fought harder but my little girl was covered in puke, my wife was in tears, and I was SO mad at that point I didn't want to stay there any longer than I needed to. To top it all off we didn't get our rock repairs fixed because they canceled the service!

I will NEVER go back here again and I will tell anyone and everyone I know to never go there either! They are nice until you head back to do all the legal stuff. Please look over the contract carefully because they will rip you off and try to sneak things in there! They have absolutely NO customer service and I am seriously disgusted with they way we were treated here. A sales manager is a manager for a reason, to deal with upset customers. Mike just told us lies, Debbie told us lies, and so did Pat. So now we are stuck with 2 cars that are starting in negative equity when we thought we were getting rid of our negative equity. I know there were times when we could have been smarter or made better choices and we have definitely learned our lesson, but they really did take advantage of us and I know they will continue to do so to other people.

Please BEWARE!!

I agree. I said we should have walked away and that is the biggest mistake we made that night by not doing so. My point is we were ripped off and I want to share my experience so that it doesn't happen to others and so that they DO walk away. Thanks for the input!

Use the power of your right to walk out

The second Brandy told you that the written contract was wrong, or didn't apply to you, or any other horseshit, you should have simply WALKED OUT. It never ceases to amaze me that I read ROR after ROR where the consumer complains that the car dealer started to lie to them and they actually went through with the sale. Dammit, people,no one is holding a gun to your heads forcing you to be lied to. The first time a salesperson, Finance person or anyone else at the dealership (or anywhere else) lies to you, WALK OUT. Ring the "NO SALE" Key on the cash register. As long as they keep getting away with it they will continue to do it.
