I contacted LendingTree.com, which also goes by the name of HomeLoanCenter.com to try to refinance my mortgage.  I spoke with loan agent, Haiyen Tran and explained what I was looking for.  My situation did not allow me to bring any out of pocket money to closing and I specifically expressed this to Tran.  I was advised by her that this was not a problem and I could proceed with the loan under those terms.  Tran suggested I put the $400 appraisal fee on a credit card to lock in the loan rate and I agreed to do so.  I was advised I would receive a copy of the appraisal at the same time they did.

The appraisal came in lower than what it should have and I found that Tran had over estimated by loan payoff by over $12000, even though she had the documents showing what I owed.  I asked for the reason it should cost $12000 to refinance and she would never provide an answer and only told me not to worry about the numbers.  I never received a copy of the appraisal but soon after, received a phone call from Mindy McGreevey, who said I would need a second appraisal because of the type of loan I was getting.  An appraisal was done and I never received a copy or was told what the value was determined to be.

I then received a call from McGreevey who told me I would need to bring $3500-$4000 out of pocket money to closing in order to close the loan.  I advised McGreevey I was not able to do this and never agreed to these terms and she sent me back to Haiyen Tran.  Tran said there was nothing more she could do to help me.  I requested a refund of the $400 appraisal fee and she indicated they couldn't refund the money.  When I began asking Tran further questions about the appraisal and specifically the numbers from the second one, she hung up on me.

It appears LendingTree.com/Homeloancenter.com is simply scamming people out of appraisal fees and then changing the terms of the loan midway through the process.  I would have never proceeded with the loan if I had known there was no way to come to closing without any out of pocket expense.  I only proceeded with the loan and agreed to pay the $400 because I was assued by Tran that this wasn't going to be a problem.  The entire process & loan terms were misrepresented by Haiyen Tran and her company.
