I contacted the jail in Marion County - downtown Indy to schedule a visit with an inmate. I have never been to the jail before. When I called to schedule the lady (if you can call her that) asked me what time - I told her and she said Oh and you realize you have to be here 45 minutes prior to your visit. No, I did not REALIZE this and was told I could not change my visitation time. I asked for a supervisor who pretty much said "tough". I am shocked that we pay these officials and they can treat the public like this. Don't we pay their salaries? I use to be very respectful of the law enforcement officials for the risks they take and the challenges they face each day but after being spoken to like a piece of trash on the street - I am ashamed to say I live in Marion County. The sheriffs department here is by far the rudest group of people I have ever spoken to on the phone. Too bad there is no one for this group to answer to. Just because I have someone in jail I would like to see - doesn't mean I am a criminal and don't appreciate being spoken to like I am one. Great job on your customer service skills. You really are a very very poor reflection for your department and for the community to see and speak too.

Customer Service?

AUTHOR: Jenna - (U.S.A.)

I hate to have to tell you this, but law enforcement it not a customer service industry. They aren't here to

Paying taxes doesn't make you someone's boss. Law enforcement officers pay taxes, too. The jail has rules. They must be followed! It's not like Starbucks giving you a coupon for a latte because the chick at the counter didn't say "Thank you for coming" and you though she was rude. You're not special and the police don't have to make you feel special. They enforce laws. They work a thankless, dangerous, never ending, low paying job. Every weekend and every holiday a cop or correctional officer is working.

Your report makes it seem like as soon as you said a time to the person on the phone that this time was set in stone forever. As important as rules are, I'm sure that it didn't happen just that way. Rather you made the appointment and realized, for some reason, you couldn't make it 45 minutes beforehand and were not allowed to change the time after some time had elasped since you scheduled the visit.

There's plenty of people that law enforcement officers have to answer to. Those people, thankfully, are not the type that think police are here to provide customer service. You're *NOT* their customer and you're not always right.

That's how it is.

Some of the people working in these agencies, are very rude, and think because they have a little power, and you're at their mercy "wanting to see someone they're holding", they may treat you as they wish. I'm very familiar with how rude these people can be, and no, it's not ok. They think just because you're affiliated with someone who's incarcerated, they don't have to respect you. This isn't just in Marion County either, believe me.

Attempting to do anything about it is useless, and like fighting city hall. They do no wrong! And they all stick together with their immoral disrespectful activities like slime.
