My Maytag Atlantis washing machine leaves clothes covered in lint, and it gets worse with time, until I must use an electric dryer to even make my clothes acceptable to be seen in public. I have never had this problem with other washers, and went online looking for a solution, or where the lint trap was, so I could clean it.
I found out that there not only is no lint trap, many, many other people are furious about the exact same problem and terrible customer service response from Maytag. They must get thousands of calls from irate customers on this issue, yet all the people whose online reports I have read, say Maytag treats them each as though they are the only ones having this problem, and that it must be their soap, their water temperature, or their propensity to wash towels, which generate lint. Of course, everyone washes towels, and if Maytag's Atlantis cannot have towels washed in it, it cannot be used in America.
I have cleaned massive black gunk and compacted lint from the edges of the top of the inside barrel as far as I could reach with a cloth, but that helps marginally for a few washes, and then the problem is the same again.
People who are angry at Maytag need to realize that Maytag was acquired by Whirlpool Corporation. I am not sure if Whirlpool India is the same company as the one based in Michigan, but we all know that there is almost no manufacturing base in the USA anymore, and all the brands we know are pretty much just licensed names attached to transnational corporations. So it is very hard to point at Maytag and say "You betrayed my trust" when you realize that what you are pointing at is a conglomerate that bought the right to use the Maytag name. There is no more Maytag, in reality.
But there is a Whirlpool corporation, and it is responsible for the product which doesn't work properly. The only fortunate thing right now for honest, hardworking people for whom a new washing machine represents a major investment, is that sooner or later the word gets around when enough people get screwed over by the same company and product, and with websites like this and many others, that word is getting out faster and better. Sooner or later their cover will be blown, and whereas that doesn't get any of us our money back or a working product, we can warn others, and be sure to do thorough research on people's complaints about a company and product before spending another dime, in the future.

VERY few of the plants are located outside of the US, One refrigeration in Mexico, and the front loading washers in Germany. Now that's out of the way, most consumers aren't the brightest bulbs in the box and do not know how to load a washer, or how to select the cycle needed. In most cases it's either too rough of an agitation or an overloading issue. There isn't an issue with the Maytag Atlantis washer with lint.
