An "unavailable" number called my girlfriend several weeks ago asking about a sweepstakes, and then she was switched over to the girl's "manager," who just wanted to ask about the girl's service technique. My girlfriend told him she was very nice, etc., and he went on to offer her a magazine subscription for 62.40. He was very sly and I was not in the room so I didn't know what was going on. he implied that this was a one-time payment, though never outright said it. He also told her that the amount would be taken out in a few days. It was taken out immediately and she didn't have the money, so she overdrafted.

He did not mention the company name, or if he did it was in one of his fast-talking spews of words and figures. He waited for her to say what he wanted her to say, because he was recording the conversation like all con-artists do, and then hung up. On the bank statement was a number to call. When she saw she was in the red in her account, she called it, and was connected to "customer Service." These people would only give their first name. No company they worked for, and not the one that the magazines were being hocked by. Which apparently wasn't the same company (very suspicious). We called this number 3 separate times and got 3 separate employees. Each said something different but they must've gotten tired of us because they finally agreed to a refund and a full cancellation after TWO DAYS of badgering them.

I'm sure this "Catie" representing the company will comment like on all of the other complaints on this company, but here's a little bit of info:

They're not the only ones that can record phone conversations.

Many cell phones and landline phones now have the capability to record conversations with the press of a button. This isn't the old days anymore, they are the ones with outdated tactics and technology. If an unavailable number calls you, or anyone suspicious at all, take matters into your own hands. I'm hoping they don't try and stick my girlfriend with the massive payments (Totaling nearly $1000, by the way), but for now we give a sigh of relief that we got a physical confirmation letter of cancellation of service. But if for one second you feel uncomfortable, don't hesitate to take some precautions. Stall them and grab a voice recorder of some kind. It is a viable weapon in court against these twisters of language.

And as for you telemarketers out there with selfish and twisted intentions. Watch out, there are those of us out here who are wise to your tricks, smarter and more resourceful than you will ever be. And we are the ones you should be worrying about.
