The OfficeMax Assurance program borders on being completely worthless. The sales staff will tell you repeatedly that EVERYTHING is covered, but when you go to make a claim, only specific parts of the product are covered for very specific defects.

The warranty coverage also does not overlap with the manufacturer's warranty, which means your "three year" Assurance program is really only 1 year in length if your product has 2 years of OEM coverage.

Fortunately, we're only out a few dollars on this ripoff, but I hope OfficeMax invests it wisely, because they aren't getting anymore of our business.

While I cannot speak for every OfficeMax retail store, the ones that I have worked at and managed in the past do not mislead our customers about any of our warranty programs. As stated on the brochures themselves, the warranty's start after the manufacturer's labor warranty expires. The MaxAssurance does cover anything that happens to your product excluding malicious abuse (purposeful damage) and if it gets lost or stolen.

Your statement about the overlaping coverage is a half-truth, since the labor warranty is not usually as long as the parts warranty (90 days, 1 year typical) coverage can overlap with the manufacturer warranty. However, what you don't say, is the manufacturer warranty only covers for manufacturer defects sans wear-and-tear, accidental damage, power surges, and just about anything else. During the manufacturer's parts warranty (after the labor warranty) you will have to bear the brunt for all shipping charges, labor costs occurred, and any other fees the manufacturer decides you need to pay. MaxAssurance has no hidden charges or fees after purchase and will result in you getting your money back on a gift card instead of getting a repaired or refurbished machine.

If you feel that you were unfairly denied coverage from NEW (the company who manages OfficeMax's warranties), most OfficeMax's will take care of you in-store to make sure you are fairly treated.
