On July 25 2006 I bought a Famous Brand V1712B 17" LCD Monitor from Tigerdirect.ca based largly on the final low price after rebate. I applied online at Onrebate.com for the rebate the same day. I sent in all the required rebate information within days of the monitor showing up.

On August 7th I received an email saying my rebate had been accepted and my rebate would be sent to my Paypal account within a few days.

I called Onrebate on Aug 24th and spoke to Ginette to find out why I had not received my rebate. Onrebate claimed I had. I asked them to fax me their confirmation of payment, which they did not do. I told them I have been using paypal for years and am quite aware of what is going on in my account. I offered to fax them my statments and show them they payment had not been sent. They said they would look into it and call me back.

I called again on Sept 6th and was told it was a screwup with their paypal account and I would get my money in 7-10 days.

I called back on Sept 19 and asked to speak to a supervisor. I spoke to Nicky Thomas who said she would look into it and call me back.

I called again on Sept 26 and spoke to Pedro who promised my payment by Oct 6th.

I also called Ben Uppal at Tiger Direct.ca on Sept 26 who said he would look into it. I did not hear back.

On October 2nd I emailed Ben Uppal at Tiger Direct to see what he had found out about by rebate.

I spoke to Ginnette on Oct 5 and she said they would send a cheque.

On October 12th, Ben Uppal from Tiger direct emailed me back saying I should see my rebate in the next week.

On Nov 6th I asked to speak to a manager. After much run around I spoke to Tavares who said he would look into it and call me back.

I also emailed Ben Uppal at Tiger direct on Nov 6 to let him know I had not received my rebate. No responce.

I emailed Ben at Tiger direct again on Nov 22 asking about my rebate. No reply.

After 3-1/2 months after my rebate being accepted, I still do not have my $60.00

This is out and out fraud.

If their are any lawyers reading this, there are enough complaints here and on other sites to start a class action suit. I would happily join one.

Reply to the Boca Raton rebuttal

I just wanted to comment that although I think that OnRebate is in bed with Tiger Direct I do know that there is more than one company that could manage the rebates but even after years of complaints thay continue to use this company with no appolgies. Tiger Direct does not care about the customer.

By the way I have bought from the Raleigh store once and on line 2 times. I lost both rebates from the on line oders and I was very careful in filling out the paperwork the second time. They claimed the bar code was not from same box the monitor was packaged in. NOT true but you also can not resubmit and they will not return you submitted paperwork even if you agree to pay for it.

I'm like others - a class action suit is needed to stop all the rip off.

ONREBATE.com is not Tiger Direct

AUTHOR: Ken - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, November 27, 2006

I see all of these reports against Tiger Direct, especially the one in Boca Raton (which does indeed seem to have a problem), however these reports are aimed at the wrong people.

Tigerdirect merely utilizes ONREBATE to process rebates that are offered by manufacturers. The rebates you receive are not being paid by Tiger Direct, but by the makers of the items purchased. Any rebate offered by Tiger Direct itself is an instant rebate deducted at time of purchase (same with Best Buy, Staples, etc).

While ONREBATE is consistently the subject of the rants and criticizism, I feel Tiger Direct is getting an unfair amount of attention. It is the purchaser's responsibility to make sure rebates are applied for on time. I have purchased many items with rebates from Tiger Direct and Staples and have never had a single problem with the ONREBATE folks who handle the rebates for both companies. I see that some people indicate that they "sent in the required receipts, etc on time", however the way the system is set up you no longer have to do that if you enter the model and serial numbers and the store's transaction number from the receipt.

In short, while the (I assume) Tiger Direct outlet store in Boca Raton may be causing some of these problems, Tiger Direct as a whole is a fantastic company that offers THE BEST deals anywhere on computer electronics, and no one I know has ever had ANY type of problem with them.

Let's put the focus on the true source of the problem, not the company as a whole that sells millions of dollars a day in equipment, only to have a problem at one location that needs fixed. I also dare to say that many of these reported problems with ONREBATE are probably due to the user not correctly filling out the requested information on the website. At least one of the compalints mentioned having difficutly with the system.

Like I said, I am a customer of Tiger Direct, and am more than pleased with the service and attention I receive from them. Put the blame where it is due, not on an entire nationwide company that is THE major player in computer electronics retailing. And remember, out of thousands of transactions a day, there are bound to be a few errors. If they need a new manager in Boca Raton, fine, but my store in Raleigh NC is the bomb.
