How to check a site AND "a ripoff by any other name.."

AUTHOR: pherd1 - (USA)

POSTED: Saturday, March 05, 2011

Come on folks,  rebuttals like "they are in different cities, they can't be two places at once.."

Solution:  Just use the "whois" tool, available by searching Google and other sites.

Example:

One of the more "real" looking fake sites is:

www.newschan7.com

Which to the untrained eye seems to be a real website of a real news organization!  They even "fill"
the site with RSS news feeds, and have "stock art" pictures of "news reporters."

The site "reports" that it is a TV station from San Diego.  However, using the "whois" to check
the actual owner of the site and you get:

wealthmastersinternational.biz

.. doesn't exactly sound like a TV station website, does it? (smile)

Just a personal though regarding ALL "penny auction" sites.

Even IF:

- they have an actual honestly run website
- they deliver promptly on every order
- they don't "shill" their own auctions

"Penny Auctions" are STILL ripoffs...  Most "sample pages" and "promos" list a 2011 car won
for "only" (in the example I saw) $1817.63.

Let's supposed the AVERAGE "cost per bid" is .25, some are more, some are less, some have
"bid sales," but STILL..

At .25 per "penny bid" they will make $45,440.75 + 1817.63 (the bid) + assume $0 taxes
+ 500.00 (shipping/handling) = $47,758.38

They could sell 2011 BMW's brand new all day long, being completely honest and upstanding,
and all you have is an "honest and upstanding ripoff!"

When you add the "mailing list" secondary income, onsite ads, reports of shilling and
what-not, it just makes a "ripoff site" a BIGGER "ripoff site."

It's very similar to the "putting lipstick on the pig" analogy..
It still smells badly, and just annoys the pig..

Penny Auction Watch is not a scam, doesn't own any Penny Auction Site

AUTHOR: PennyAuctionWatch - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 08, 2011

Seawall: You were banned from PAW because you were rude to other members and violated the rules continuously. I'll have you know, once again, that I the owner and operator of PENNY AUCTION WATCH do not own or operate any penny auction site nor do any penny auction sites own me or my site.

http://www.pennyauctionwatch.com/forum/penny-auction-site-bidder-reviews-experiences-discussion/101-for10cents-7.html

Also, it's ironic how one of the sites you list that PAW is "owned by" is actually suing me right now because I stated my opinion.

Nick, you're wrong and you know it. I didn't SHILL anything, also I DO NOT get free bids for ads but monetary compensation, like any media outlet gets. No free bids, now stop spreading your lies about me because you know you're wrong. I

#12 UPDATE EX-employee responds

pennyauctionwatch.com(PAW) is 100% SCAM and ran by someone that owns SEVERAL Penny Auctions.

AUTHOR: seawall9 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 08, 2011

This Penny Auction Watch site is Major scam(pennyauctionwatch.com).  Also known as "PAW".

PAW is a front for these dishonest penny auction owners to make their sites look legit.  Penny Auction Owners plant positive experiences on here(Complaints Board) and on the Penny Auction Watch forums(PAW) to bait people into playing and buying bid packs.   Buying bid packs to bid on items?  What a joke and scam!

Go to (((Redacted))) and search "penny auctions for sale"

There you can see how these operates by the use of controlled bots on autobid to scam any real people into buying more and more bid packs until the reserve price has at least been met for that item that's bid on.  They aren't in the business to LOSE money and will never ACTUALLY sell an item below value.   If not enough real people are bidding on a particular item for a while, they will end the auction to a bot name.  They will then list the bots name in the "Auction History" section to make it look as if REAL people actually win and auction is honest+fair.

You can buy your own Penny Auction from Flippa.com and start scamming also.  So easy to do.

Also. Google, "penny auction website script" and see how these scams operate.  The scripts are cheap to buy.

To build up traffic to your scam penny auction you must plant positive experiences on  forums such as PAW(PAW is a front).  You must also dispute ANY negativity or complaints on forums such as this.  For EX, tell the angry complainer that he must be crazy, use stupid bidding techniques and unlucky because you win all the time and just won a 52inch Plasma for 2 bucks.  People WILL start believing you if you plant enough fake postitive experiences/reviews.

JUST make sure to use different names each time you fake post.  If you use same name over and over again telling everyone you win all the time, people will begin to catch on and realize it's just a fake post planted by the Penny Site operator/owner.

They cheat you and make a killing from people like you that bought into it. Some will even go as far as to advertise on social networking sites such as "FACEBOOK" and write stories of winning items for $4 and so on to get people to join the site.I call it their, "Fake Social Environment" where they ask and answer their own questions attempting to be perceived as an honest and fair auction.  For EX they will say, "I just won 12 Lap Tops for $40 and they all arrived today in factory sealed boxes! I love this site!"

Anyone can do this... so easy to make money.

MAKE sure that the server that hosts your scam auction is located outside of the USA so you can get around federal gambling regulated laws.  If heat gets to much, then shut scam auction down and create a new one.  Repeat process.

Happy scammin'!!

I tried to post that on PAW(pennyauctionwatch[.]com) to warn good honest people BUT they wouldn't allow it to post..

 I wonder why? ;)

So i'll just post away on websites such as this.

You use to could post on PAW right away but now they have a Moderator that must approve your post first..

I wonder why that is? ;)

I think we ALL know why that is :)

****************Penny auction watch, penny auction traffic ran by the same owners as bidcactus, for10cents.com,  beezid and swipebids these are the real con man

PAW FORUM HAS HELPED ME

AUTHOR: KSteven7 - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, May 13, 2010

Before I found PAW I was a victim of several less than honest Penny Auction sites. I didn't know how to record auctions, watch for system issues or recognize shill bidders.  I took time to really read the threads before I ever joined the forum and it helped.  More than you can imagine.  I learned that bidders I had thought were bots were actually Power Bidders.

I find it humorous that in one paragraph the forum is accused of being a co-owner of several sites but some of those same sites have threads where bidders questioned the integrity of the site.  If I had a monetary stake in those sites and I was running the forum the threads would have been promptly removed.  Instead PAW allows the users to provide their own insight about the auction.

Anyone who believes that a forum which has provided a GENUINE service to the customers of penny auction sites is a bad thing has to have an ulterior motive.  I can think of several. Either you are a dishonest site or a competitor in the PA forum world.  In reality, this poser is really just giving PAW more attention and hopefully will direct even more users to PAW that can provide me with more information on other sites that are out there.  I want to Thank Amanda for taking the time to develop and moderate the site.  You have saved me hundreds of dollars..  Thank you.... Happy bidding to all..

You've Got to be Kidding Me!

AUTHOR: outlander - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, May 13, 2010

Penny Auction Watch maintains forums where players on many auction sites can comment on their experiences.  I have posted there a number of times, and recognize the names of other bidders I've met on various sites.  The original report is nothing less than slander and an attempt to discredit a service that protects bidders from the unscrupulous owners of dishonest auction sites.  It would appear that the original complaint was filed by an unhappy owner who got caught at his own game.

What are your motives here? I suppose you're one of those guys that opened up one of the rip off sites of pennyauctionwatch.com that are trying to "destroy" and discredit me with your false accusations? Either that or you're a penny auction site that did have bot bidders or didn't ship items, or both? I do not and have not owned a penny auction site. I opened pennyauctionwatch.com after being a penny auction bidder that DID get scammed by penny auctions.

As for those who have common sense check out http://www.pennyauctionwatch.com/forum to learn more about penny auctions

Reporter live2bids is a fake and Liar

AUTHOR: Stuff4me2Win - (United States of America)

POSTED: Thursday, March 25, 2010

to live2bids...

This comment was not from any employee of PennyAuctionWatch, or the website Live2bid.com.   There is only 1 employee of Live2bid.com, the owner.  I'm a close friend of the owner of Live2bid.com, and the poser who claims to be an employee is just plainly a liar.

This whole thread should be removed as it is totally mis-information about PennyAuctionWatch and the PennyAuction sites that were quoted.

Live2Bid.com is re-launching March 27th.

Original report is false

AUTHOR: J4me - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, February 16, 2010

The original author of this report should be rather embarrassed of his/her claim.  I work for QuiBids and can assure you PennyAuctionWatch has no ownership in our company.  Our boss and CEO is Matt Beckham - this was posted in our interview with PAW last month.

I have always found PAW to be an honset and reliable site.  They make it known, the owners of each penny auction, through their interviews, as well as depicting the more legitimate auction sites.  From reading the last rebuttal, I absolutely agree with and suggest checking the IP addresses to see where all these sites come from!  PAW is doing nothing wrong and everything right in doing their best to point penny auction participants to the more reliable auction sites.  I applaud PAW's owner!

Customer testimonials - people get excited when they get a good deal on a particular product and always want to tell others.  Those are our customers and we want them to tell us, as well as others!  It's human nature and how it goes.  Not only for penny auction sites, but you'll find testimonials for all different kinds of companies/services/etc. in other industries.  How is that really any different?

I can now only assume the original report was posted by a member of a dishonest penny penny auction site... or someone who has had a bad experience with participating on the sites that were mentioned.  If that's the case, I'm sorry to hear that.  I hate to make assumptions, but the report doesn't make sense in any aspect.  Claims like these are just silly and should be taken off.

Accusations by reporter are ridiculous

AUTHOR: angelducky - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, February 03, 2010
The allegations by the original reporter are ridiculous and incorrect. The assumption that the person who owns the forum PennyAuctionWatch.com also owns multiple auction sites is absurd.

I have spoken personally with several of the auction owners of the sites that the reporter claims are owned by the same person who runs PennyAuctionWatch.com. Judging by my own impressions based on speech patterns of the auction owners as well as the owner of PennyAuctionWatch.com, I can assure everyone they are different people.

As concrete evidence of this, looking purely at the IP address of the emails obtained by corresponding with auction owners of sites such as Zoozle.com, Dime-Divas.com, RockyBid.com, Live2Bid.com, BidCactus.com, and multiple other sites that I have bid on in the past, it is clear to see that unless any of the owners are capable of being in multiple cities within hours of sending me emails, each owner of the site is a unique individual with a unique IP address which is in NO WAY similar to that of emails obtained through corresponding with the owner of PennyAuctionWatch.com.

There is a thread on PennyAuctionWatch.com which asks users to post when they have good customer service experiences and those excerpts that the reporter used are drawn directly from that thread and are not the opinions of the owner of PennyAuctionWatch.com.

The PennyAuctionWatch.com forum gives users the opportunity to discuss penny auction sites and to decide for themselves whether they are legitimate or scams. The majority of the time, sites are not marked as scams unless there is concrete proof to back up allegations which are posted on the forum for auction owners to address and/or explain. Often the forum members are the ones that urge the owner of PennyAuctionWatch.com to move threads into the Red Flags section after members experience suspicious behavior on certain sites.

The original report gave no conclusive evidence supporting the claims that the owner of PennyAuctionWatch.com owns multiple penny auction sites. On the contrary, looking at the IP address of emails obtained through corresponding with auction owners proves definitively that these claims are false.

I Agree with the reporter

AUTHOR: live2bids - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, January 31, 2010

This report is a valid report.  I happen to know someone that knows the Owner of PennyAuctionWatch and have heard from several people that the owner named Amanda does indirectly control some of the penny auction sites.  She owns a few sites herself and claims that she does not. This is a complete scam.  DO not believe everything you read on the forum as most of the members are part of the scam.

Now she is posting messages to PAW members asking for them to comment and back her up on this report.

#1 REBUTTAL Owner of company

I do NOT own ANY penny auctions!

AUTHOR: PennyAuctionWatch - (United States of America)

POSTED: Sunday, January 31, 2010

Hello,

I am the founder of PennyAuctionWatch.com, the original report by "WolvesinSheepClothing-from Sacramento, California" is blatant slander/defamation/libel.

PennyAuctionWatch.com is an informative blog and forum for penny auctions. What is a penny auction? PennyAuctionWatch.com does not charge readers/users anything.

I started PennyAuctionWatch.com after being defrauded on penny auction sites and found that there was no discussion forum or clearinghouse for penny auctions, I had no way to determine whether or not I was bidding against real bidders or phony scam automated bot shill bidders, which are used by a number of sites and software developers. So I created the site to be a place for users of penny auction sites to come together and discuss their experiences for people to be able to form their own opinions, as well as a place to present what  we have found out about penny auction sites. Check out my site and you will see just how widespread the dishonest practices in penny auctions are. A few examples of this:  Penny auction site owner admitting to shill bidding, and another, to evidence of an auction owner(s) requesting  shill bot bidding scripts, to site owners posting fake testimonials in our forum and another, as well as what seems to be fake videos testimonials on YouTube. Also, first-hand observation of  shill bidding auto bots in the administrative consoles of penny auctions, to developers touting their penny auction Intelligent Investment Protector addon script as a solution sure to avert suspicion of fake bidders, to one software developer proudly proclaiming  that their autobots = your angels = protectors = body and business guards! Many more instances of unethical bidding practices have been posted on  PennyAuctionWatch.com and in our entertainment shopping forum.

Never once does PennyAuctionWatch.com claim to be an UNBIASED source. We point out the positives on penny auction sites that we have tested as well as the negative (shill bidders/scams) that we find, we cannot and do not know all auction sites out there, but if you do find some that seem to be legit we will tell people, same goes for the dishonest sites, but you still need to use your own discernment when bidding on any penny auction website.

I, the founder and sole owner of PennyAuctionWatch.com do not own or run any penny auction, reverse auction, pay-per-bid, bid-fee, or entertainment shopping auction websites.

The only income that I receive is from affiliate links and approved advertising (similar to RipOffReport.com). And this is disclosed.

PennyAuctionWatch.com is just like RipOffReport.com, but for Penny Auctions.

The comments that  "WolvesinSheepsClothing" posted in this original report were from my forum, they are not even comments made by myself (the founder and sole owner of PennyAuctionWatch.com), but were copy/pasted from the forum thread "Good Customer Support Experiences with Penny Auctions." They were then posted on my blog last week here: http://www.pennyauctionwatch.com/2010/01/good-customer-service-experiences-penny-auctions

Since PennyAuctionWatch.com is an open forum I cannot guarantee the accuracy of any post or comments, but I do investigate to the best of my ability when users post accusations of fraud/wrongdoing as well as when they post positive testimonials.

As to you ("WolvesinSheepsClothing") I do not know whether or not you are someone who has been exposed by way of my site,  PennyAuctionWatch.com or what your interests are, but if you are indeed running a penny auction site or developing software to outright scam people out of their money you will be found out and you will be exposed and hopefully prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

If you are interested in penny auctions please feel free to check out http://www.PennyAuctionWatch.com, where we give out information and provide a penny auction directory as well as forum, free of charge to all readers and forum members.

Thank you!
