Puppy mills have been around for decades. They continue to thrive because they prey on unwitting consumers who are smitten by too-cute-for-words puppies in pet store windows and on legitimate-seeming websites. Puppy mills house dogs in shockingly poor conditions. After their fertility wanes, breeding animals are often killed, abandoned or sold cheaply to another mill to try and get "one more litter" out of the dog. The annual result of all this breeding is millions of puppies, many with behavior and/or health problems.
I wish I would have known what I know now about the term "puppy mill" -- I bought a VERY EXPENSIVE puppy naively in college and (although I only graduated a year ago) am still paying off a $1,500 dog that I ended up having to GIVE AWAY DUE TO HEALTH PROBLEMS! THE FLIPPING GM IS THE OWNER'S SON!!! THEY WERE COMPLETELY UNREASONABLE WOULDN'T GIVE ME MY MONEY BACK AFTER DOCTORS NOTES OF THE POOR HEALTH AND LETTERS FROM AN ATTORNEY THREATENING TO SUE -- Figured I was in too deep of fees at that point I wanted to kill myself from the extra load of stress it added with school that I just gave up- but am STILL paying for it! DO NOT go there! It's a death wish!

DO NOT buy any animal from these people......all you will get is an animal with health problems and papers that are not valid. FINALLY got a refund but had to threaten to get sheriff involved to get money back. From what others say...ours was not an isolated incident.?

Humane Society says Petland supports cruel...??
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 By Winpo - Nov 20, 2008
The Humane Society of the US today, November 20, released the results of a shocking investigation showing that pet store chain Petland Inc. is the nations largest retail supporter of puppy mills. This information is the results of an 8 month investigation that shows Petland stores in multiple states marketing dogs from cruel puppy mills to unsuspecting dog buyers. Tell Petland to stop selling puppies!?

Bad place to buy a hamster??
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 By guigirl - Jun 17, 2008
Syrian (teddy bear, black bear, ect.) hamsters are solitary and will fight if housed together. Petland not only houses them groups, but does not seperate them by sex. This makes it highly likely that you will get... 1. a diseased hamster 2. a pregnant hamster (obviously only if it's female) 3. an ill-tempered hamster Please, instead, patronize other stores and breeders that take care of their animals.?

Poor Costumer Service...??

Curious

AUTHOR: Geoff - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, January 31, 2012

As an interested Petland Franchise owner that is looking into doing business with this organization, I am surprised to see so many reports on here discussing treatment of their animals.  I myself got my dog at a puppy rescue because those are just as good of dogs as any others, plus they need homes as well.  We got her at 8 weeks and while she has always been healthy has had issues as any growing biological organism does.  I am sure everyone on here was sick as a kid and had to go to the doctor.  It is curious if you actually expected to purchase an animal and that they would never get sick or require additional care outside of walks, feeding, etc.  Plus from researching Petland and their organizational structure and business practices, as I look into possibly joining their organization, I have yet to see any indication or proof to indicate what you are referring to is a systemic issue throughout Petland franchises or even this store in general.

I know there are pet stores out there that engage in puppy mill activities and I find the act horrid and sickening myself.

Just to recapitulate the thoughts on the remarks above, it seems very fictitious in nature but hey, some people will believe anything they read on the internet and immediately believe it to be true even if it is absurdly false.

Sincerely,
Geoff, Interested Reader

I bought a beautiful "designer dog" from this Petland about two years ago. Although, I was fortunate enough to receive a healthy dog, she did have many problems after I first purchased her.  When you initially purchase a puppy from this store you are required to take them to the vet within the first week or so to keep the warranty. This expense is covered in the cost of the puppy, sounds like a great deal, but then you have to began to realize that this Vet is obviously getting some sort of compensation.
The vet's name is Dr. Good, I did not notice this until I called to make the appointment. I have had previous encounters with this vet. Most notably in 2008, when I took my German Shepherd for a routine checkup everything went well, until I realized on the car ride home that half of his tongue had been severely cut. When I returned back (extremely irrate) at the Vets office Dr. Good pretended they had no knowledge of how the cut occurred. This should speak volumes on the character of Dr. Good and Petland.
They do not buy from puppy mills? really? Yeah I heard that from your father as well, so not true. I have actually retraced my puppy from the puppy mill she came from to their Petland store. (petshop.com) They treat dogs and animals in general just as a grocer would treat a can of green beans.  Instead of buying go in and ask questions, it will soon be apparent they are bullsh*tting. Poor puppies though, it's not their fault.

Simply Not True

AUTHOR: BCParker - (United States of America)

I handle everything puppy related for Petland Kennesaw and have for 9 years. Yes I am the owner son and some people would consider this a good thing. Its what we call a family business. We work really hard and I believe we have one of the nicest pet stores in the state. Every customer that buys a puppy leaves with my personal cell phone number so if there is a problem I can address it immediately. I have not spoken to a customer who purchased a $1500 puppy that has had a problem where they wanted their money back. No one has come to me with letters from there vet or has threaten to sue us. This story has to be a fabrication or I would know about it. However if this customer feels the need to follow up with me they have my cellphone number and I will help them in anyway I can. All of our puppies come with warranties and I follow them to the T. We don not buy from puppy mills, we use professional breeders that I have bought from for years. Just come on down to our store and you can see for yourself how good of a job we do. We have sold 8500 puppies and have adopted over 2000 puppies and kittens in the last 9 years and we are really great at what we do. Thanks for your time.
Brad
