My parents bought me a 37" Polaroid LCD TV style FLM 373B three years ago at Walmart.
Of course after the warranty expired, the TV stopped working completely. A call to Polaroid informed me that this style TV was known to be defective, as hundreds of others have had the same problems (Black screen) and that the parts to repair it (if they could locate the part which I was told was nearly impossible) would cost me $300 and that I was better off just buying another TV!!!
They Do Not stand by their merchandise, and have ripped off hundreds of people. A three year old TV is expected to last a lot longer than three years. TV repairman won't even come look at it as they will not touch a Polaroid TV.
Polaroid should be reported to a higher authority and a class action suit should be issued against them.

Really, this is pointless. It's a cheap TV that I would expect to last 3-5 years. It lasted 3 years, which is about normal for this sort of product. Also, capacitors don't get damaged by reflow soldering (which is a standard process used for assembling everything including high-reliability electronics). They crap out because they are cheap, Chinese pieces of garbage (just like everything else in that TV). And it may not be the caps, anyway -- it could be the power supply, the backlight driver, the backlight itself, the main controller, or virtually any component in the thing. If you can buy a replacement main board for it, you could try that, but otherwise forget it and trash the thing. Have fun with that lawsuit -- I doubt you have better lawyers than Polaroid does, though.

Thanks for the info, it is appreciated, but I did have all of the blown capacitors replaced...still no picture or sound at all. Polaroid needs to step up to the plate and admit their faulty production. If you get a chance, read the class action suit. Sums it up very well! Thanks again!

You need to Know that I've recently Had a Panasonic Monitor repaired for exactly the same reason

The problem was that Panasonic had a Chinese Sub-Contractor Make their sub- assemblies, and the sub screwed it up, What is happening is that the capacitors are blown/blowing because they were Overheated By the Manufacturing Process. (They put the whole board through an Oven when it was made) That melted the solder and made ALL the connections, BUT it also makes/made the capacitors overheat, result, they go bad years later(Blown, that means the end pops and the goo runs out)
Fortunately, it's fairly easy (Read , inexpensive) to fix, You simply replace the bad capacitors, and all is well for the next Century.(Or so) till you tire of it and scrap/sell it anyway, In my case, I took it back to tje place I bought it(MAJOR computer and screen place with the initials BB) and had the capacitors replaced, it cost about $55 Total. (And a bit of research)
I told them to replace ALL the blown Capacitors, and I'm using it today. All is well.

UL approval?
AUTHOR: Robert - (USA)

UL approval is for SAFETY, not warranty issues.
A TV NOT being UL listed is not grounds for a lawsuit or recall. There is no requirement for a TV to be UL listed in order to be sold in the U.S.
Your TV failed AFTER the warranty period-good luck with a lawsuit.

Class Action Law Suit???
AUTHOR: Ken - (USA)
SUBMITTED: Friday, June 24, 2011
Let's see, your TV is over 3 years old and has failed. What was the warranty period and what did it cover?
This is a known, low end, low cost brand of TV.
You expect, apparently, the manufacturer to provide an unlimited time warranty to you or they should be sued in a class action suit.
What, exactly would the class action be about?....not providing unlimited warranty service?
Get real and get a better TV this tlime...You got what your folks paid for.
