Pre-Paid legal makes you recite your name, address, phone & membership # EVERY time you call in~ Quite monotenous.

They give you a file # (NOT a case #)~ They make it clear you are NOT their client & they are NOT representing you.

They allow atty assigned to your file "8 hours" to return your call~ Don't hold your breath- It could be several days to wks.

The atty will only provide legal advice ~for $26 mo. you barely get what you pay for.

The attys push to refer you to an outside atty, not even affiliated with Pre-paid legal's firm. The outside atty then demands a huge retainer fee, a portion of which I'm sure is shared with Pre-paid legal. Now get this: Since you are now being "represented by an (outside) atty" your file is now CLOSED with Pre-Paid legal, so you can never call them again on this matter!~ Who needs them to find an atty willing to take your money?

If you refuse the referral, the Pre-Paid legal atty will eventually write a letter, but 1st~

Atty has you fax "statement of facts w/ resolution" desired & documentation- limited to a few pages.
Atty then has another 5 days to review fax~this entire procedure drags on for a few weeks.

If the case involves the same party in a previous case, the intake will give you the same file #. The atty will now insist on a NEW file #. The member is put in the middle of the intake & attys inter-office fighting. Worse, yet, now you have to start all over again from the BEGINNING!~ sounds like a gimmick to me!

Aside from the shenanigans, here's my personal gripe:
I have a tenant-from-hell so I joined for the landlord/tenant benefits. Although it's the same tenant, it's always different incidents.

After the tenant's bulldog law firm sent an intimidating letter to Pre-paid legal in response to their letter~ my atty wimped out & refused to send a letter on the next incident. (Remember, letters are all they are good for!)
I had it re-assigned to another atty~ who played the "new file #" game, then refused to send a letter in the end, anyway.

After 2 attys & a 1 mo. delay, I filed a complaint with Pre-paid legal's corporate Oklahoma ofc.~NOTE: they RECORD you without informing you, which is a FELONY in California!

There is no more "customer service" provided by the corporate ofc. than there is their sub-offices. they used the excuse that it was the "same situation."
I corrected them that although it was the same individual, it is a new & separate incident~ Nowhere in their rules does it say that members are limited to legal assistance ONE TIME FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL!

Pre-Paid Legal engages in false advertising, bad business practices, & they breach their contracts with their members. They have the system down, to "delay and refer" in order to wear members down & discourage them, to hopefully avoid having to provide the service we pay them monthly to perform for us.

How to Influence (and how not to)

AUTHOR: CurtisJo - (United States of America)

POSTED: Monday, July 04, 2011

Wow.  I'm always astounded when I hear, or read, consumer comments about services, products, experiences, etc., that sound so utterly (hmmm......thinking) thoughtless(?).  Here are a couple of very basic rules that I find quite helpful.

If you feel compelled to complain, with the hope and intent to influence people's opinions (not jam your opinion down the throats of others), the best place to start is by gathering your thoughts in a space that is kind and respectful.  As soon as you go down the road of "silly" name-calling (with ranting and shoot-from-the-hip comments thrown-in) you've sunk your ship.  At this point, your opinion appears little more than childish foot-stomping simply because you can't get your way.  Let's face it, many come here probably because nobody seems to care and they're desperate for some stroking and reinforcement to validate their feelings.

Stone-throwers really need to include some consistent, hard facts to back-up your story.  Likewise, for those who are contrary to the stone-throwers.  If you can't give the reader any facts, once again, you are sinking your ship.  Be very careful when using the "he-said, she-said" method of influence--this method will inherently be perceived as child-like behavior (and very revealing about who you are and your "state of mind."

Find at least one good thing to say and make sure your reader can find that easily.  If you don't balance your complaint, your chances for credibility is dismal.

I came here looking for some credible experiences, either good or bad.  What I found were comments that were so vicious they simply lead me to believe that the complaining comments are relatively baseless, without fact and lacking credibility.

To those of you who complained on this thread, I congratulate you.  You have effectively sunk your ship(s) and have only given me reason to wonder what kind of people you really are that you would be so negative, nasty, mean, and lacking social skills that you would debase your credibility for the sake of a blog post.  You have done nothing to support your cause.

what do you want for $26?

AUTHOR: Indigo - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, December 04, 2008

If you did nothing but called an attorney and asked them a question once a month, that could easily be $100 a month. I have had prepaid for quite some time and I understand that they will not be able to help me with my initial $26 bucks, but they at least get me started in the right direction. One of the times I needed an attorney to come to court with me, I was asked for a $200 retainer. A week or so after the court date that I WON money from my case (landlord tried to evict me because she never came to pick up the rent as she normally did and said I was late), I received a check in the mail for $184.00. I called to make sure that it was suppose to be sent. They said yes, I was charged $16 for gas for him to come to the court. They have written several letters for me, shown up at court with me and if nothing else advised me on how to handle situations with companies and individuals from a legal standpoint.

I can not say enough how much I appreciate this service. It is sad that this person above has had such a negative experience, but if you look at how many clients there are and how many complaints they have, that is a hell of a record. By the way, the owner of the companies wants to be called if a person has a negative experience so he can do something about it. Too many times, people like this don't even try and go back to the company and get a resolution, they just come to a website like this and vent and then realized all they needed to do was talk to someone in the company, even if that meant all the way up to Stonecipher and got the problem resolved.

Please know that she is the exception to how this plan works for families to keep me in the legal loop, without spending hundreds of dollars per hour..

AUTHOR: Brooke - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Thursday, September 11, 2008

i worked with parker-stanbury through my pre-paid legal membership in a legal battle with a former employer. they were very responsive, spent numerous hours on the phone coaching me through my meetings with the labor commissioner, and i ended up getting a $10,000 settlement that i never would have gotten without their help in filing the correct documents (which they checked for me) and coaching me what to say in the meetings and not to settle for less.

it sounds like whoever filed this report had a bad experience, but i don't think it means that you shouldn't use pre-paid legal.

I definitly have to disagree with the stament made!

AUTHOR: Nick Lucas - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Monday, August 11, 2008

I have been apart of PPL for a little bit over a month, so i don't know the company in and out! The reason I disagree is that as an associate you have to have the PPL membership, and I can not say how satisfied I am. I already have used the the membership two times!
1: they have already saved me money on attorneys by PPL giving me very helpful legal advice regarding an issue i was having with one of my companies I own.
2: I had a big conflict with Triple A, the sales rep i was dealing with promised a service that was a part of a extended warranty agreement that the warranty really didn't provide. When i first tried to handle it myself they wouldn't do any thing for me and just left me in the dust until I had PPL contact them! Triple A contacted me right back saying they were sorry for the inconvenience and were willing to fulfill what they promised. Just that right there saved me from getting ripped off $2,670 by a huge company plus the money it saved me the first time I used the membership!
So how the heck is PPL a scam?
It is definitely the best $36 i have ever spent!
and as a sales associate I have already tripled my return on investment. So how is this a rip off?
Some one please explain how this is scam to me? I'm lost i thought a scam was where you lose money?

I agree that they are just whiners and what was reported about PPL / Parker Stanbury is not true. I am a new associate / member and have used the services twice. They have a quick response time and are very professional with you. I would not be without the membership!! They simply sent a letter and I received the respect and credit that was due me. I think the whiner was unreasonable and had a bad attitude when they used the service. That will usually bring about the wrong results!!! Obviously everyone did not experience what the whiner experienced and my reply along with others is proof of that.

You start off with the fact (inconvenience) that they ask you name & id #'s?? Give me a break - NOTHING you said sounds like anything but whining & the reason you've probably got legal (tenants from hell) is that you're UNREASONABLE. I've personally used PPL for many issues (all succesfully & WITHIN my provider lawfirm), NEVER had to wait more than a few hours for a call back (maybe NO ONE wants to deal with you - thought about a new approach?) - PPL has been a blessing & literally the best $36. bucks a month I've spent!! I can without hesitation recommend PRE-PAID LEGAL AND THEIR (MY) PROVIDER LAW FIRM, PARKER STANBURY - THANKS GUYS

Parker Stanbury LLP saved me THOUSANDS of dollars!

AUTHOR: Long Beach - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 17, 2008

Cheri is correct in the fact that you are asked to give your name, address, phone and membership # every time you call in. Much like they do when you call to speak with your bank, your cell phone company, your cable company, your health, car and life insurance companies... need I go on. This is a simple business practice used to identify you and is no more monotenous (misspelled by the way) than reading her complaint.

As for her complaints on how to use the service (faxing in documentation etc.) I will not dignify that with a response. Use your head lady, without that information it's called "he said, she said".

I have used Parker Stanbury numerous times to get answers to questions, and to have letters prepared and phone calls made on my behalf. These are just some of the services that I expected when I signed up with PPL and have received as a part of the benefits they provide. Never once has it taken more than 8 hours to get a call back from the attorneys. In fact they have even called me after business hours and on Saturdays! Try to get any other attorney to call you back in such a timely manner.

I believe that the bottom line in Cheri's report is that the attorney's did not do what she wanted them to do. She gave no regard to whether or not she had a legal right to her position. She just expected (as too many people do) that PPL would support her regardless of her legal standing on her issue. One of the biggest and best benefits PPL provides is access to attorneys for advice on your legal questions/situations. They are not miracle workers unless you are the one with the LEGAL leg to stand on!!!

By the way Cheri, who told you that a company in OK can't legally record your conversation without your knowledge, your attorney?? I thought not, considering you've cancelled the best attorney services in North America!!

Thank you,
A very happy member for 5 years

If the complainer of this law firm, truly has a problem with the aptitude of the firm representation, I suggest that they take it up with organizations, such as; Martindale-Hubbell, state's Attorney Generals office, etc.

For over a century, lawyers have relied on the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory for authoritative information on the worldwide legal profession. The Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings play an integral role in this service to the legal community.

Buyers of legal services, as well as those making referrals, consider Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings invaluable when evaluating a lawyer. Using ratings, they can select counsel with superior ethics, as well as the desired level of professional experience.

Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings attest to a lawyer's legal ability and professional ethics, and reflect the confidential opinions of members of the Bar and Judiciary. An objective way to assess a lawyer. A Martindale-Hubbell rating guides buyers of legal services and those referring business in making faster, smarter decisions. A rating's third party validation of ethics and legal ability provides that extra level of confidence that the right lawyer or firm has been selected. By combining a rating with a review of other data in a lawyer's Professional Biography - such as practice areas, bar memberships, professional affiliations, education and clients - a person can be certain he or she has made the right choice for that particular legal matter.

If you look at the ratings the overall average attorney in this firm of 70 is an "AV" rating. That would be of the highest ethics and the most experienced.

$26 dollars a month? Do you have a will? Can you get any attorney to draw up a will for $26 dollars? Even if you were to discount the countless thousands of satisfied PPL clients, your comments are maddening to me, because I suspect you expected an attorney to give you the answer you wanted, not one that was the most logical and indicative of the law.

Thank You Pre Paid Legal for giving access to the legal system and preventative law.

Don't put your trust in MLM scams. Prepaid Legal is just another rip off in more ways than one

AUTHOR: Raven - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, March 26, 2008

Recently a friend of mine contacted me about attending a meeting at her house with one of the slick sales reps from PPL. She brought me in to ask the tough questions because she is a kind hearted person who is very giving and trusting. I am her polar opposite.

The paltry services that PPL offer can be easily handled by yourself with a little research on the internet and are usually free. While you're surfing (or having your kid surf for you) look up Pre Paid Legal, Inc. and read what others have said. You can feel free to read what is written by slick shysters- er, representatives of PPL but I can guarantee you that it will definitely be the biased opinion of a person who isn't afraid to step on the little guy to boost themselves up the pyramid a little higher. Ask yourself if this is the kind of person you want to believe, or are the opinions and experiences of Joe and Jane Schmo's like you and me the people you'd chose to trust. Sure, we may not be as articulate as the well trained huckster, but we will certainly be more honest.

No matter what plan you purchase, remember that the real goal of this company is to make you a sales rep, and to make money off of you. I was extremely put off with the scare tactics used by this company in its sales presentation. ("ooo, ID theft is rampant and is going to GET you and your little dog too! 9-11! Terrorists! Illegal immigrants! Ooo!) I was also even more put off by the targeting of poor to middle class, senior citizens and the under educated. They look for the easily suckered and fleece them for all they're worth. The sales pitch was very high pressure. How do I know a slick huckster, high pressure sales pitch? Because I was once a telemarketer and pre paid legal service was only one of the many items I sold. It was a nauseating existence and I only hope I can make up for it by warning people not to fall for it.

My parents taught me that you get what you pay for. There are crummy lawyers out there as well as there are the good and the fair and you will find the later if you LOOK. I've only need a lawyer twice in my life and I was easily able to pay for their services even though I don't make much a year. If you want to just kick back and let someone handle your business, that's your decision, but if you just take a little fraction of perseverance you'll find that there are very, very few things a normal person will need a prepaid service for. Its true that they will only handle your consultation one time for each item. Note that many lawyers right out of the phone book do the very same thing for free. If you go to court over a traffic ticket chances are in you favor that the thing will be dropped if the officer doesn't show. The one time I did it, my fine was reduced and the points were not assessed - I didn't even have to go to the "school" to get them off my license. They were just dropped, saving me a fortune. Getting a power of attorney for my grandmother was also a free service by a local law firm in my area. I've been consulting with a lawyer who has helped me extensively with a problem landlord and hasn't charged me a dime once. Isn't there a saying about God helps those who help themselves? I have no more time than anyone else. I work full time and help take care of a quadriplegic. You think you don't have time? Remember that as you're watching TV...

If you don't want to put forth any effort in your personal affairs, or if you just can't sleep at night because some huckster has convinced you that evil ID stealing monsters are waiting under your bed, than by all means pay the $30 a month if it helps you sleep better. Remember that a lot of prepaid lawyers are just starting out and trying to drum up business so when you have to come up with a $2000 retainer for a wet-behind-the-ears, straight-out-of-law-school lawyer- don't be surprised.

You think any experienced law firm would settle for handling the piddling amount that comes in from a PPL service when they can get the money right from you? I've read reports were people who've used PPL have found that after the little bit of "free" service dried up, the lawyer's fees were padded so that they didn't lose anything from the 25% discount. They were still inflated after the discount, higher than normal lawyer's fees.

Do your research and do it well. If you're on ripoffreport.com, you're already on your way to a good start. Remember that the turnover rate in MLM is very high and the only people who make money are the ones on the top. Are you ready to step up even if it means stepping on others?

I've read reports were people who've used PPL have found that after the little bit of "free" service dried up, the lawyer's fees were padded so that they didn't lose anything from the 25% discount. They were still inflated after the discount, higher than normal lawyer's fees.

Do your research and do it well. If you're on ripoffreport.com, you're already on your way to a good start. Remember that the turnover rate in MLM is very high and the only people who make money are the ones on the top. Are you ready to step up even if it means stepping on others?

#8 Consumer Suggestion

Don't put your trust in MLM scams. Prepaid Legal is just another rip off in more ways than one

Some lies in Kelly D's Post

"have a new 30 + million dollar corporate office on 80 acres (all paid for)"
If I remeber it right the headquarters build was paid for by a loan that was about 40million dollars from Comerica Bank. This loan is told about within the annual report. So, no it is not paid for with cash at all nor is it paid for.

Tru-TV

AUTHOR: Sean - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 18, 2008

in reguards to your comment about tru-tv would not have a documentary about your company if it wasn't so good. The fact is your company is running an informercial that is in a paid programming slot. As long as they are not breaking the law or saying something that tru-tv is very ashamed to air they will let it go on. But, they do not endorse pre-paid legal anyone could have airtime there. It is an infomercial about the company and its services. BTW the ad on the company website tells you to find the time it is on channel and times may vary. LOL well the infomercials on tru-tv do not have a listing on the cable guide or the cable lineup because they are not listed as pre-paid legal says that they are. So you can not look them up. What a joke.

Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. is a GOOD COMPANY !!!!

AUTHOR: Richard - (U.S.A.)

In responce to Parker Stanbury LLP........it is very apparent this person is wrong! I have been with PPL (Pre-Paid Legal for 13 years.....I am an associate and member just like Parker Stanbury......first...when you call the attorney firm...they ask you for your membership number and name. Not all the things he said. Second...it doesn't take days or weeks to get a return call from the attorney firm....normally only a few hours, not d a y s and weeks like he said. Third...he said they "push" or want to refer you to an "outside" attorney......totally a lie....when the regional firm can't take care of a problem -- like a speeding ticket in a distant part of the state, they refer it to one of our law firms in THAT town! The attorney is one of our attorneys! Not some outside law firm. Fourth...he said they want a huge "retainer" fee to do anything for you...again totally wrong....the company does exactly what it says it will do in the literature, and agreement at no extra cost to the member. No extra cost. Sixth..each time you call......you do not..have to get a new file and start all over. He states that our customer service is bad....wrong again...we pay hundreds and thousands of dollars to the law firms on a monthly..I said monthly..basis..we sit down with the firms very often and discuss any any complaints, etc. They must fix them or..we go get another firm..would you like to lose hundreds and thousands of dollars every month if that were your firm? No. We are the largest customer of the firm. So they fix the problems when we bring them to their attention. Finally...would Court Tv (now called Tru-Tv..do 5 (five) documentarys on our company on how good we are.. would the Black Chamber of Commerce..and the United States Chamber of Commerce also endorse us ! Would we have not celebrated our 15th year of consecutive growth every quarter! Would a recent survey of all the stocks on the NYSE and other exchanges with C.E.O.'s of over fifteen years of service--rate us as the number 3 all time stock! Would we not have been in business for 35 years..have a new 30 + million dollar corporate office on 80 acres (all paid for)...and the list goes on and on and on.....thanks for the time to rebut this absurd man's comments.
