I am so disgusted with this office.  I had treatment completed, they verified insurance and told me my out of pocket which was 370 and I paid at time of service, then sent me a letter stating my insurance pays poorly and to call to set up arrangments to pay the balance of 329.  I called and was suppose to receive a call back to confirm amount because Lisa in the office was going to see if there could be a discount due to issues.

Then we would set up arrangment.  I did not have 329 dollars availabe a week before Christmas.  To my surprise I check my bank account the next day prior to going Christmas shopping for my Children and there was an unauthorized pending charge for 329.  dollars, when i called they hang up on me , no Christmas for my children.  Bad unethical dentist office!

Unauthorized credit card charge

AUTHOR: Kerrie Milcherska (Byrnes) - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, December 18, 2013

Actually, the insurance was not slow to pay at all.  The service was rendered in the middle of November, I immediatly paid my out of pocket in full based on what the office calculated, 370 dollars.  I have no issues paying what is not covered.  The problem is with how it was verified they did not calculate correctly which I can even accept that, in addition they asked do you want a silver filling or white filling (for my back molar) I said oh, Ill take white, what they did not say is the insurance will not cover a white filling for a back tooth, they will only cover it at the cost of a silver filling.  When I received the letter from their office, from Hannah with a note to call her to set up payment arrangement, I immediatly called the insurance company and verified what coverage there was and what happened, and I called Hannah, she immediatly stated they didn't pay what they were suppose to, so when I explained they did pay the way they were suppose to but they made a mistake was made when calculating the out of pocket and that I was not advised about silver vs. white for a back tooth.  Hannah did not like hearing that and said well I was busy that day and was not the one who reviewed it with you.  She transferred me to Lisa whom was very nice and understood why I was upsey and Lisa told me she would talk to Dr. Sater to see if they could at least discount the white filling to a silver filling and she would call me back and let me know and we would set up payment arrangment, I in addition told her that would be great, that with it being Christmas and having the little kids at home, I would be able to make a payment towards it and pay off balance in Jauary.  Which keep in mind service was November, I paid the 370 in full, Insurance Paidn there portion In December and I just got the bill for the rest on 12/15 spoke to the office on 12/16 and with out so much as a call they ran an unautorized payment on my credit card for 329 dollars in 12/17, then when I try to call them I speak to a woman and she hangs up on me.  There is nothing okay or right about this situation at all!  How dare anybody imply I was not paying or act as if this was a delinquent past due account.  I have the letter from Hannah that I already gave to the BBB.  I have also confirmed not legal to tun a credit card with out the date being approved by the consumer as well as the amount.

no just poor insurance.

No you just have poor insurance. Reguardless of the fact that they charged your card, it was money you DID OWE. If your insurance company isnt paying them, then they have to get payment from the patient. Its not a ripoff or scam to PAY WHAT YOU OWE!!

Now I will admit that IF this office gave you ONLY one day to make payments then yes what they did would be considered "rude" but not unethical or illegal. See you are counting on your insurance to pick up the rest of the bill. But if your insurance company is dragging their feet and not paying, well then they MUST get paid. Peoples paychecks depend on that sort of arrangment.

Now if some time had passed since the offices sent you a communication on making payment arrangments and you had not contacted them yet, then they are well within their rights to TAKE the payment. They provided a service, your insurance is not paying them, other peoples kids need to eat as well.

It is unfortunate but its NOT the dr offices that have done this to you. Its your insurance company. Yes, the office taking the money out WITHOUT immediate notification was a bit rude. But, once again, people need to be paid. A service WAS rendered. I would be blowing up my insurance company if I were you. THEY have caused you to be in this bind by NOT paying what they are supposed to. There MAY be an issue with your insurance but its going to take a phone call to find that out.
