Bought a no contract cell phone plan from the Radio Shack in Antioch Illinois.  Won't say the cell phone company they did nothing wrong.  Was "helped" by Dennis I picked out my cell phone and told him specifically what plan I wanted which would give me a certain number of daytime minutes and also free nights and weekends which is when I use my phone the most.  He told me no problem, took all my information and inputted it into the computer.  The phone company sent a text to my new phone telling me what plan I was getting.  They got it right.  He took my money and I went on my way.  Fast forward a week.  My cell phone company sends me a text telling me I am almost out of minutes.  So I called the cell phone company and asked how that was possible I have free nights and weekends.  They told me I was never signed up for that plan.  Radio Shack never charged me enough for that plan.  I went back to Radio Shack with the phone, the receipt and talked to Dennis.  He basically called me a liar, that I could not be correct that the cell phone company was not correct that I had been signed up for the right plan but not charged enough.  He is never wrong and there was nothing he could do about it.  This was my problem, I could of course call and talk to his supervisor and he would be sure to let her know what was said.  Of course he will tell her his twisted side and it will do me no good to call.  I would not go to this store I have never been treated this badly and never called a liar by a sales person.

From my understanding... (Radio Shack employee)

AUTHOR: Andrew P. - (USA)

POSTED: Wednesday, June 16, 2010

I'm having a hard time understanding exactly what happened.  You said you received a text from the phone company saying that you were put on the correct plan, then a week later, you were told you weren't put on that plan?  That seems like a problem with the phone provider.  If this is the ATT GoPhone, it may be due to a change in their GoPhone plans, which has happened somewhat recently (in the last few months) where the "Pick Your Plan" option is gone and they've moved on to only unlimited and pay-per-minute rates.

I'm assuming that we're talking about ATT's prepaid, since Virgin Mobile, T-Mobile's prepaid, Boost Mobile, Tracfone, and Net10 do not offer night and weekend plans on their prepaid.

While I agree that the employee's attitude was uncalled for, I can't see how he would be confused.  That's not saying that he should call you a liar, which is never the right option, but I'd have to think he was flustered.

Although it isn't carried by Radio Shack, you may try Cricket, which actually gets service in Antioch, Illinois (according to Cricket's coverage map).  They do offer a plan for $30 monthly that gives unlimited nationwide talk, unlimited long distance, unlimited nationwide text, and voicemail.  However, if you do decide to go this route (if you haven't found another provider by now), they do charge for roaming (which they hope you do since it's really the only way Cricket makes money).  If you stay in their coverage area, then it's a fantastic deal.  If you leave their coverage area and use another provider's tower, they charge $0.25 per minute.  That can be $45 more for just 3 hours of roaming in a month.

From your description, it sounds like there was a problem with ATT's GoPhone service, which was only compounded by the rude attitude of the Radio Shack employee.  I would like to say that something like this would never happen again with another Radio Shack employee, but the fact of the matter is that sometimes a bad apple gets in with the rest of the bunch.

If for any reason you are in the greater Phoenix area in Arizona and you need help with electronics, please drop by.  As much as it irks my manager, I'm more motivated by helping my customers than my paycheck (as cliche as that sounds).  I guess it's because money isn't much of an issue with my family, but the reason I come to work is because I like the one-on-one relationships I can develop with my customers.

I do hope this problem has been resolved for you.
