My complaint is against Roberts Auctioneering Services. They are located at 2054 Winsloe Road P.E.I., with a retail store and Auction building in Kensington, P.E.I., Highway # 2, Civic # 25055. The company was holding a farm machinery auction sale in my community on April 20, 2013. I pre-registered a 960 John Deere field cultivator and placed a $3500 reserve bid on the equipment. Despite the reserve on this item, Robert auctioned the cultivator off for $3100 ;$400 below the reserve bid.I approached him immediately after the auction sale, and he acknowledged that he was aware of the reserve bid but forgot when he was auctioning the item. As this was his error, I made it clear that I expected him to make up the difference as I wouldn't have let it go for $3100. I waited approximately three weeks for the cheque via mail. Upon receiving it, I was only paid the $3100, and his commission and advertising fees were still deducted. This cheque was returned to the business owners on the day it was received. After three visits made in person to their store, and multiple ignored phone calls, I am still awaiting the correct payment. Eight weeks later, I have been told repeatedly that it is in the mail but have yet to receive payment. Their slogan is, "We Aim to Please," but I strongly disagree. They also say they have been serving Islanders for 37 years but they only have been in buisness since 1989 (this might explain there bad math skills if thats what you wanna call it?) The owners have been most unpleasant to deal with. The female business partner and manager, Arlene Roberts, has been extremely rude, disrespectful and completely unprofessional. I will certainly not have any further dealings with this company in the future and would strongly deter others from enlisting the service of this particular auctioneer. There website is http://www.robertsauctionspei.com/roberts/contact.html Real Cons

I have also been to many of the auctions held by Robers Auctioneering and have seen some things done I would not call as above board.

Usually one or several of the employees at the auction will have bid numbers and will bid items up or buy things in for the owners of the auction service. I guess that would fall under shill bidding if it were ever fully proven.

Joblot , box lots of items are prepared in such a way that some valuable items will be mixes in with scrap boxes. The employees know which ones are to be bought in, some are kept in the site office or hidden away and not available at preview time

Some items are sold but the asscesories are held back, If a friend of the auctioneer or an employee is the sucessful buyer the extra goodies appear out of no where and go with the item, Otherwise the extras are sold later in the sale.

More ofteh than not the "additional items" at any estate sale are the auctioneers items from the retail store and are subject to reserve bid.

And yes I wold agree the woman "business manager" can be a nasty piece of work. She had attempted to have me removed from a friends property when he had his sale and I watched them like hawks all day for my friend recording every bid, lot number and buyer, essientially duplicating the same as their note taker. Yes there was some discrepancies between our accountings at the end of the day but that is a matter for another day. I will not say any more on the matter other than we had a difference of opinion. I wouldnt want to open myself up to legal action.
