Sallie Mae Sallie Mae Took My Refund Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania

3/28/2013 - 4th Payment made on Loan Rehabilitation program
4/7/2013 - Removed from Offset List after making 4 consecutive payments

4-8-2013 - Filed taxes per advice from Account Control Technology (collections agency where payments are being made)

4/14/2013 - Taxes intercepted by Sallie Mae
4/17/2013 - Taxes posted to Sallie Mae debt

We received a notification that our taxes were seized. We expected that. What I didn't expect were the answers from Sallie Mae and the Department of Treasury. 

6/3/2013 - Called Sallie Mae and was told we filed our taxes too early. That we should have waited 7-10 business days after our 4TH PAYMENT. Our 4th payment was 3/28, we were REMOVED 4/7 and we FILED 4/8 per the advice from the collections agency ACT. We called the IRS before filing and all they said was that there was a possibility but there's no guarantee that it won't be intercepted.

6/4/2013 - Called the Department of Treasury who said that depending on when Sallie Mae notified them their systems would update within 24 hours. I called Sallie Mae and demanded a supervisor as their reps kept repeating that I should have called - I DID CALL. Their supervisor was already engaged so I was sent to escalations. The escalations rep simply kept repeating that I should have called and I filed too soon. After several minutes with her, she finally said that even though we were removed from Sallie Mae's system 4/7 we wouldn't be removed from the Department of Treasury's system for another 7-10 days that their systems automatically do that and that they have no control over that. It's interesting that no one had mentioned that - neither the Department of Treasury, IRS, Account Control Technology, NOR Sallie Mae. All we were told was to wait 7-10 business days after the 4th payment and that we were fine to file taxes.

What makes me PISSED is that, if I'm removed from Sallie Mae's database but not the Department of Treasury's and they mail my refund to Sallie Mae WHY WOULD SALLIE MAE STILL KEEP MY CHECK? This is 1 unethical and deplorable institution. I don't care that I was misinformed it's the ethical thing to do. I'm removed from your system to NOT HAVE MY TAXES TAKEN, yet YOU STILL TAKE MY TAXES AND SAY THAT I WON'T HAVE TO WORRY FOR NEXT YEAR. Yeah... OK. TWO CORRUPT INSTITUTIONS GIVING THE RUNAROUND AND NOT WANTING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. IF THIS INFORMATION WAS JUST PLAINLY WRITTEN OUT IN THE LETTERS YOU SENT ME, I WOULD'VE FILED FOR AN EXTENSION AND WAITED. BUT NONE OF THIS WAS IN THE NOTIFICATIONS AND YOUR COLLECTIONS AGENCY MISINFORMED US, AND YOU STILL KEPT MY REFUND EVEN AFTER REMOVING ME FROM YOUR SYSTEMS TO NOT INTERCEPT OUR TAXES. OK. NOW I HAVE TO FILE FOR INJURED SPOUSE AND WAIT EVEN LONGER FOR A PORTION OF MY TAXES. NO ONE SHOULD GET A LOAN FROM SALLIE MAE. THIS IS DEPLORABLE.
